FRANK JARVIS (28 Nov 1837 - 28
Nov1900)
It was a terrible shock to the citizens of Colby, Clark County, yesterday forenoon, when it was reported that Frank Jarvis Sr., had been struck and instantly killed by a southbound freight. Frank had been uptown doing some trading, and started for home with several packages on his arm. He went down Division Street to South Street, where he turned to cross to the west side and it was at this crossing the terrible accident occurred. He crossed the track in front of a south bound freight running at a high rate of speed, and as told by eye witnesses, when he fell backwards just in time for the engine to strike and hurl him to one side. His head was crushed and death was instantaneous.
Mr. Jarvis was one of the oldest old settlers of this vicinity, was
scrupulously hones and highly respected by all.
His death is a sad blow to the family he had always idolized.
He was a veteran, having served four years and one month in the
2nd. Wis. Cavalry. (Colby Phonograph)
