Mrs. A. J. Whitford Passes Away Sunday
Had Been a Patient at Mount View Sanitarium at Wausau Six Months; Also Received Treatment at Muirdale in Wauwatosa.
Mrs. Alice J. Whitford, aged 31 years, a daughter of Mrs. Jonas Ayer of Spencer, died at Mount View Sanitarium at Wausau last Sunday morning at 4:00 o’clock, after an illness of two years duration.
Funeral services were held this Thursday afternoon at 1:45 o’clock at the Swarthout Funeral Home where the body lay in state until the funeral services, and at 2:00 o’clock in Trinity Lutheran church, the Rev. A. C. Stapel, pastor, officiated at the services. Burial was made in the Spencer cemetery. The deceased had a religious training and was confirmed and was a member of the Trinity Lutheran church.
Mrs. Whitford, nee Evelyn Oliva Raabe, was born in Spencer Nov. 16, 1909, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. August Raabe. She was educated at Spencer and graduated from the Spencer high school and St. Joseph’s School of Nursing at Marshfield. She was married to Alan G. Whitford on October 3, 1932 in Rockford, Ill. They made their home in Milwaukee for several years until Mrs. Whitford entered Muirdale Sanatorium. Later she entered Mount View Sanatorium at Wausau.
Surviving her are her husband, two children, Pat O’Connor and Joan Virginia; her stepfather and mother, Mr. and Mrs. Jonas Ayer of Spencer; a sister, Mrs. Alan (Amanda) Johnston of Rapid City, S. D.; four brothers, George Raabe of Merrill; Henry Raabe of Stevens Point; Walter Raabe of Chicago; Werner Raabe of Baraboo, and 10 nieces and nephews also survive her. Her father, August Raabe preceded her in death on April 11, 1911, and a brother, Carl Raabe, died May 22, 1937.
The husband of the deceased, Alan Whitford, is a patient in St. Joseph hospital in Marshfield, and was unable to attend the funeral.
