Struensee, Dale Joseph (18 February 1936 - 15 April 2012)

Dale Joseph Struensee, 76, of the Town of Levis, rural Neillsville, died early Sunday morning, April 15, 2012, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Marshfield.

Dale was born Feb. 18, 1936, in the Town of Grant, Clark County, the first born child of Joseph W. Struensee, Jr., and Mildred (Strebing) Struensee.  At the age of nine years, he lost his mother to death. He attended the Washington School in the Town of Grant.  Starting as a boy, he worked at farming and logging and later in the marshes of Jackson County doing mossing and harvesting of cranberries.  He also did construction work.

Oct. 11, 1958, Dale was married to Barbara Krosinski in Humbird and they had five children. They divorced in 1968.  On Oct. 30, 1970, Dale was married to Lois (Yarrington) Richtmyre in Neillsville, and they had one son. Dale was also a father to Lois’ two sons, Brian and Jeff Richtmyre. All eight children were raised as one family in one household.

At the time of his second marriage, Dale worked at the Jackson County Iron Mine as a drill operator and also farmed in the Town of Hewett.  Later, he went into mossing along with farming.  Eventually, he worked at independent logging fulltime.  In his retirement, he went back to missing for a time. Dale enjoyed working and taught all eight of his children a good work ethic. Other than working, his hobbies were fishing and hunting as well as some traveling to southern and western states.  He enjoyed the woods and working for himself.

In addition to his wife, Lois, Dale is survived by his children, Sandy (Bill) High of Condon, OR, Duane Struensee and Sarah Struensee, both of rural Neillsville, Daniel Struensee of Woodland, Park, CO, Brian (Sheri) Richtmyre of Ham Lake, MN, Jeff (Kim) Richtmyre of Tumwater, WA, and Kevin (Susan) Struensee of Greenwood.  He is also survived by several grandchildren, and great-grandchildren; siblings, Robert Struensee of Neillsville, Shirley Bryan of Tullahoma, TN, Alice Zelasko of Clintonville, Warren (Mary Jane) Struensee and Darrell Struensee both of the Town of Levis, Carol (James) Kasun of Cedarburg and Floyd (Carol) Struensee of the Town of Levis.

Dale was preceded in death by his mother, Mildred Struensee, in 1945; a brother Richard Struensee, in 1980; father Joe Struensee, Jr. in 1994; step-mother Evelyn Struensee, in 2004; and son, Donald Struensee, in 2009.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, April 19, at the Buchanan Funeral Home, Neillsville, and will be conducted by Pastor Steve Wentz. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until time of service.  Burial will be in the Dells Dam Cemetery in the Town of Levis.

The Buchanan Funeral Home, Neillsville, is assisting the family with arrangements.
