Schune, William (14 DEC 1835 - 1 MAR 1917)

William Schune, a well-known and respected town of Grant retired farmer, answered the final summons at 3:30 o’clock last week Thursday morning, March 1^st, 1917.  Death resulted from heart trouble and advanced age, for deceased was a man of 81 summers.  A native of Germany, he was born there Dec. 14^th, 1835.  He came to Wisconsin and settled in Washington Co. 52 years ago.  He was married in Cedarburg, Washington Co., 47 years ago last April to Miss Johann Tischer.  They came here to Clark County and took up residence 43 years ago on the farm which has since been their home.  Here, surrounded by his loved ones, he passed peacefully away after an illness of only two weeks.  During this illness it is said of him that he ate a meal in bed for the first time in his life.

He is survived by his wife and six children, namely Mrs. Hannah Mahn of Neillsville, Susan, Mrs. Oscar Heisler of West Allis, Herman of Altoona, Miss Mary and Adolph of Granton and Miss Emma of Milwaukee; ten grandchildren and one great-grandchild.  Mr. Schune was a member of the Maple Work German Lutheran Church and the funeral was held at the church Sunday afternoon, Rev. M. Hasz, the pastor, officiating.  Interment was made in the church cemetery.  The pallbearers were Henry Sternitzky, Henry Yankee, August H. Riedel, August G. Riedel, Gottlieb Hillert and Adolph Schlinsog.  The funeral was largely attended by neighbors and friends from far and near.  All of his children, with the exception of his daughter, Susan, Mrs. Oscar Heisler of West Allis, were here and in attendance at his bedside during his last illness, as well as at the funeral on Sunday.  Herman’s wife and baby Gertrude of Altoona, joined Herman here last Saturday, while Miss Irene Mahn of Neillsville and Ozzie Mahn of St. Paul were here with their mother, Mrs. Hannah Mahn of Neillsville, for the funeral.
