Grace A. Freeman, 84, Marshfield, died on Tuesday, March 27, 2012, at her home, with her family. She was under the care of Ministry Home Care Hospice. A memorial Mass of Christian burial was held at 10:30 a.m., on Friday, March 30, at St. John’s Catholic Church. Rev. Sam Martin officiated. Honorary pallbearers were Robert Freeman, Shawn Freeman, Jason Stupe, Robert Keyes, William Graff, Roger Baldwin and Jerry Dishinger.
Grace was born on Sept. 1, 1927, in Rozellville, to John and Anna (nee Schueller) Dishinger. She attended Sacred Catholic School, graduated from Marshfield Senior High, and attended vocational technical school for 4 years. She married Russell C. Freeman on Aug. 9, 1947, in Dubuque, Iowa. He died on Jan. 16, 1993. After her education, she was employed at the Marshfield Telephone Company for four years, then transferred to the Stevens Point Telephone Company until her marriage to Russell. She and her husband loved to travel and spent 15 years in Las Cruces, N.M., Lake Havasau, Ariz. and Honolulu during the winter months. She liked to play cards, especially sheepshead, going up to their cottage to fish, and having friends visit from Minnesota and Marshfield. She was the treasurer of the Spencer Woman’s Club, treasurer of Christ The King Christian Mothers Society, president of the PTA, a den mother for Cub Scouts, and did volunteer work for the Cancer Society.
Survivors include three children, Susan (David) Shupe, Spencer, Mark (Susan) Freeman, Spencer and Scott Freeman, Spencer; six grandchildren, Shawn (Megan) Freeman, Blaine, Minn., Brooke (Clint) Smith, Unity, Jennifer (Eric) Krause, Spencer, Jason (Robin) Shupe, Mosinee, Sara (Scott) Krause, Stratford, and Melissa (Rick) Meyer, Rothchild; 10 great grandchildren; three sisters, Delores (Jim) Clem, Las Cruces, N.M., Florence Kottmeyer, Northbrook, Ill., and Joyce (Robert) Lindner, Marchfield.
In addition to her parents and husband, Russell, she was preceded in death by two brothers, John Dishinger and Conrad Dishinger; and three sisters, Virginia Pankratz, Marion Mayer and Jardine Strohman.
