James J. Wangen, 91, died on Tuesday, April 3, 2012, at Ministry Saint Joseph’s Hospital, Marshfield. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., on Monday, April 9, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Loyal. Rev. Daniel Zimmerman officiated. Burial followed in North Coon Prairie Lutheran Cemetery, Newry. Pallbearers were Francis Voit, Bob Fellenz, Vaughn Loos, Irban Aumann, Arnold Becker, Ray Oestreich and Clifford Thorson.
James Kermit Waugan was born on May 29, 1920, in Cashton, the son of Chris and Inga (nee Hall) Wangen. He was raised on the family farm and received his education in the Cashton area, graduating from Cashton High School in 1939. He was baptized and confirmed at North Coon Prairie Lutheran Church, Cashton. He married Jane Mitby on July 1, 1945, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Cashton. They moved to Loyal, where Jim farmed, was a livestock dealer and was a salesman for the Renk Seed Company for 25 years. He had an insurance agency in Cashton with Wisconsin Farmers Mutual of Juneau for 25 years. He also sold crop and hail insurance for Farmers Mutual Insurance Company for 25 years. He resided in Loyal until the time of his death. He was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church, Loyal, and was a member of the Loyal Lion’s Club. He had many interests, but especially enjoyed square dancing, bowling, and golfing.
He will be dearly missed by his wife, Jane, Loyal; four nephews, Roger (Barb) Erickson, Lake Havasu, Ariz., John Mills, La Crosse, David (Deb) Mills, La Crosse, and John (Julie) Mitby, Madison; and 2 nieces, Margaret (Rick Onsrud) Mills, La Crosse, and Peggy Huskey, Eden Prairie, MInn.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Marge Erickson.
