Milliren, Claire F. (14 JAN 1922 - 30 APR 2012)
Claire F.
Milliren, age 90, of Owen, passed away on Monday, April 30, 2012 at his
residence in Owen. A funeral service will be held at Holy Rosary Catholic Church
in Owen on Saturday, May 5, 2012 at 11:00 a.m.. Father Keith Kitzhaber will
officiate. A visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service
at the church on Saturday. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery in the Town of
Hixon with full military rites conducted by the Owen American Legion and the
Lublin American Legion. Nephews will serve as pallbearers.
Claire was born January 14, 1922 to Fred and Mary (Brenner) Milliren in
Arkansaw, WI. He received his education at Arkansaw Grade School and was a 1940
graduate of Arkansaw High School. He entered the Army Air
Corp in 1943 where he was a lieutenant and a bombardier who flew 30 missions
over Germany and was honorably discharged in 1945, and finished his bachelor's
degree from the State Teachers College in River Falls. Claire was united in
marriage to Lois Hunt on January 2, 1946 in Pueblo, CO. He taught agriculture
classes at Owen High School for two years and then he taught veterans coming
home from service at the high school for several years. Claire was then employed
as a farm tax consultant for Wisconsin Farm Business Association retiring at the
age of 70, but continued to serve as a private tax preparer until the age of 85.
Claire was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Holy Name Society, Marion
Council of the Knights of Columbus, Holy Rosary Choir and Polka Choir,
Owen-Withee Lions Club, American Legion Post 123 of Owen and the Owen Vets Club.
Claire enjoyed the outdoors, gardening and raising raspberries, farming,
wintering in Casa Grande, Arizona, hiking still at the age of 80 and skydiving
at age 80 and 85. In October 2010 he was on the Honor Flight to Washington, DC
to tour the World
War II memorial.
Claire was the co-founder of the Owen Junior Fair.
Claire is survived by his children: Michael (Mary) Milliren of Menomonee Falls,
Theresa (Don) Schindler of Owen, Priscilla (Doug Greenspan) Milliren of
Longmont, CO , Mona (Jerry) Christensen of Eau Claire, John (Becky) Milliren of
Stanley, Mary Ann (John) Stryker of Prescott, AZ, Charles Milliren of Owen,
Margie (Larry) Konik of Stanley and Richard Milliren of Eau Claire. 20
grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Brothers; Bernard (Darlene) Milliren
of Arkansaw and Giles (Shirley) Milliren of Arkansaw. Sister; Mary Jane (Bob)
Singerhouse of Menomonie, Sister-in-law; Cecilia Milliren of Plum City and
numerous nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, wife; Lois, son; William, brothers; Roy
Milliren and Martin Milliren and sisters; Lucille Bechel and Marcella Glaus.
The Maurina Schilling Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
