Woman Kills Child Sunday Afternoon
Miss June Wagner, Who Claims Her Age as 24, Drives on Sidewalk In Marshfield and Crushes to Death Eight Year Old Child.
Beatrice Marie Weis, age 8 years, was fatally injured in Marshfield Sunday afternoon when a car driven by Miss June Wagner, 24, who told the police her address was Marshfield, left the street and caught the child between the car and the concrete strips of the Schuh Brothers plumbing shop. The little girl, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph P. Weis, suffered a fractured skull, severing of the right leg just below the knee and a crushed left foot. She died at St. Joseph hospital at 6:55 Sunday evening. Miss Wagner was thrown from the car after the collision and was taken in charge by the police. She appeared in Municipal court late Monday morning and entered a plea of not guilty to the charge brought that she caused the death of the girl while driving under the influence of intoxicating beverages. Bail was set at $5000. The preliminary hearing was scheduled for Jan. 8 at 10 a.m. The woman claimed there were two men with her but Myrtle Mary Hynes, owner of the car, with whom the driver was staying, on Marshfield, route 4, a half mile north of the city limits, on highway 18, indicated that she was alone when she left the place.
