A Solemn Requiem High mass will be celebrated at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church Thursday, at 10 a.m. for Mrs. Mary Bertz, 87, who died Monday morning of old age complications at her home here in the city. Father Edward Bertz, a grandson from La Crosse, will officiate and burial will be in the parish cemetery.
The body will lie in state at the Myre Funeral Home beginning Tuesday evening. A rosary service will be sung by the Altar Society at 3 p.m. Wednesday.
The former Mary Bruce was born in Milwaukee September 12, 1871. She was married to Joseph Bertz April 7, 1890 at Hartford. They moved to Loyal in 1895. She was a member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, St. Mary’s Altar Society and the American Legion Auxiliary.
There are nine surviving children; Mrs. Thomas (Frances) Stone, Sarasota, Florida; Mrs. Alfred (Alice) Hass, Seattle, Washington; Mrs. R. W. (Evelyn) Eggerstad, Skokie, Illinois; Mrs. Robert (Gwen) Strathman, Colby; Rueben Bertz, Berlin; John Bertz, Greenwood; and Harold and Jerome Bertz of Loyal.
She is survived by one brother, Leo Bruce of Pembine, Wis.; one sister, Miss Bertha Bruce of Hartford and also many grandchildren. Her husband, two sons, one daughter and three brothers preceded her in death.
