Dr. and Mrs. Rath spent Monday night at Neillsville.
The maple syrup season is on since Tuesday.
Peter Paulson was over from Neillsville on business Wednesday.
Mrs. C.H. Witte entertained at a feather bee last week Thursday.
Miss Mary Schune is ill and confined to her bed since Tuesday.
Chas. Beer was at Marshfield yesterday to consult an eye specialist.
Leonard Cole spent the weekend with friends at Marshfield.
Mrs. Richard Kurth is home from Milwaukee since last week Thursday.
Miss Elsie Johnson started for Withee on Monday, where she is since teaching.
Mrs. A.L. Devos of Neillsville spent the weekend here with her sister, Mrs. E. Dixon.
The Misses Emma Buss and Mildred Kintzele spent Wednesday at Neillsville.
Roy Hales of East York and Harley Piggott of Loyal were county seat visitors Wednesday.
Mrs. John Wiechichowski of Athens is here since wedn visiting her sister, Mrs. Geo. Beaver.
Mrs. Albion Downer has been quite ill and suffering with neuralgia for several weeks past.
Mrs. R.T. Washburn of Lynn is visiting her mother’s at Millston since Wednesday.
Attorney C.R. Sturdevant of Neillsville was here on business yesterday.
Mr. and Mrs. Albert Jahr spent Wednesday night with relatives at Neillsville
Mrs. Mable Welsh expects to move back to her old rooms over Reichert’s paint shop next week.
Herman Schwanebeck of Route 2, after a month’s illness, made his first trip to this village Wednesday.
Frank Merryfield of Waupaca was in town on Wednesday.
Mrs. L. Stevens spent Monday afternoon with Mrs. Frank Zorn.
L.B. Cattanach of Nasonville visited town friends on Wednesday.
Mrs. Frank Spiker of Cascade is visiting at Emil Prange’s since Wednesday.
Mrs. E.W. Crandall was a Marshfield visitor on Monday.
Ben Doede was at Marshfield on Wednesday.
H. Enkhausen of Sparta greeted old friends here on Wednesday.
Mr. and Mrs. E.J. Kellicut, after a seven week visit among old friends on Route 4, left for their home at Dunn Center, N.D., Wednesday.
D.S. Rausch returned home from St. Paul last week Thursday. Mrs. Rausch remained for a more extended visit did not get home until Sunday.
Miss Anna Kempin, having finished her work at the H.E. Williams home, left for her home at Chili on Saturday afternoon.
Mr. and Mrs. A.J. Knorr returning from Florida, are in Chicago since early this week. They are expected home in a few days.
W.J. Davis was summoned to Milwaukee Monday by news of the death of his mother who resides there. Her death occurred Sunday morning.
Wm. Huntley Jr. of Neillsville spent much of this week here engaged in the erection of a monument in the Fischer Church Cemetery for the late Minnie Kurth.
Mr. and Mrs. Orrel Hunter and their little sons Joseph and Donovan, with Mr. and Mrs. John Hunter and baby Hazel, all of Route 4, left for their new home at Camas, Wash.
Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Poole and son, Thomas of Alma Center, after a week’s visit with relatives in the H.H,. John and Orrel Hunter families on R. 4, went home Monday evening.
Delos Hopke, on the old Tom Kearns farm near Christie, purchased a team of horses of Fred Wright of Granton, Route 1, last week, paying $450 for same.
Neil Downer started for Marshfield Saturday afternoon on a little business trip, expecting to return home in time for supper at least, but the tie up in the train service kept him in the city there all day Sunday.
Mrs. Eva Canfield with her mother Mrs. Nancy Johnson and her grandmother Mrs. Naomi Starks were pleasant callers about twon Tuesday. Grandma Starks is delightfully chipper and bright, and it afforded us much pleasure to meet her on this occasion.
A.A. Gates, a former well-known town of Sherwood farmer, who spent the winter with relatives in Iowa, was back last week on a short visit before leaving on Monday night for Dunn Center, N.D., where he is, with Davis Janes, engaged in the well drilling business.
Clay Converse bought a team of Butternut some weeks since and started for there last Saturday with the intention of shipping them home, but being 12 hours enroute to Marshfield and witht eh railroad strike threatening, the snow blockade on, he returned home on the first passenger train and that arrived about 6:30 Sunday evening.
Rachel Cole and Gertrude Davis entertained quite a company of their school girlfriends at a costume party Tuesday evening at the W.W. Davis home, and there was no limit to the fun and good time had by all participating. Mr. and Mrs. Tom Thumb, two clowns, several Japanese, one old maid, two colored people, little Red Riding Hood, Little Boy Blue, and two Indians were among the most distinguished guests.
Messrs. Emil and Edward Prange, with the latter’s daughter Miss Hildegarde, returning home from Sheboygan Co. where they had been to attend the funeral of their father, the late Wm. Prange, were, on account of the snow blockade, obliged to remain in Wausau from Friday until the first train to come through thereafter, and that arrived here Monday evening at about 6:15 o’clock.
Mrs. T.D. Wage left for Duluth yesterday on a visit to Mr. and Mrs. Norman Pearce of that city.
Mrs. John Malamphy of Chili was her on Monday visiting at John Bladl’s.
Mrs. Rella Osgood and little son Francis Wright returned home from Ladysmith Saturday.
Mrs. Gus Hahm spent Monday night with her cousin, Mrs. G. Holtz(?) at Neillsville.
Mrs. Earl Pickett of Spencer is visiting at E.A. Beeckler’s since Wednesday.
Mrs. D.S. Rausch spent yesterday with the Peter Paulson family at Neillsville.
Mrs. Chas. Neinas spent yesterday with her niece, Mrs. Reinhold Steckert, at the Marshfield Hospital.
Miss Bessie Hewett of Neillsville accompanied Miss Mildred Kintzele home yesterday and will make an over Sunday visit.
Miss Pearl Brooks came home from Rice Lake last week Thursday on a week’s vacation.
Mr. and Mrs. Seth Martin, who are visiting at Loyal Jordan’s, went to Osseo Wednesday for a 10 day visit.
The West York young people’s bunch, with Arthur Phipps as driver, went to Justin Johnson’s Tuesday evening and had a social party and good time.
Rush Wentworth went to Minneapolis Wednesday on a several days business trip.
The ladies aid of Rev. Reiff’s parish will meet with Mrs. Henry Winter Wednesday, March 28th.
Mr. and Mrs. John Hubing of Loyal visited at Geo. Beaver’s Wednesday and continued on to Neillsville that evening.
Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Grassman, newlyweds, left last week Thursday for Canada where on a Canadian ranch he will be employed by Joseph Ross, a brother of our townsman, Dr. P.M. Ross.
Mrs. P.J. Kemmeter is home from Milwaukee since Wednesday morning, while the millinery goods she purchased for the store on this trip, preceded her here by express on Monday.
Mr. and Mrs. Littlefield and children of Sheboygan Falls, after a visit between the Oscar and Chas. Herdrick and Henry Vick families on Greenwood Route 1, went home Wednesday.
Mrs. W.J. Scholtz and children of Route 4 drove in Monday afternoon that they might spend what time they could with Mr. and Mrs. John Hunter, who were leaving for Camas, Wash.
Mrs. Baer, ably assisted by Mrs. Hale Davis, entertained the Circle on Tuesday. The day was an ideal spring day and a large attendance was had. The net proceeds were better than $5.00.
Vernon Wright left here for Cadillac, Canada on Wednesday morning’s early train. He expects to spend the spring and summer with the Will Huff family.
Mrs. Mary MacPherson, who accompanied her son Milton to Eau Claire some two weeks since, is home since early last week and Milton is reported well on the road to recovery.
James Scoles is home from his Richland County visit two weeks past, while his daughter Miss Jessie, who stopped off at Madison for a visit, only arrived home Sunday afternoon.
Mr. and Mrs. Orren Hickox, the newlyweds returning from their wedding trip, arrived here Saturday noon, since which time they are housekeeping in their cozy home on the north side.
Wella Beecher and family came down from Thorp on a visit to his parents last week Friday. They are moving from Thorp to Mann, where at the latter place Wella has charge of the lately rebuilt factory for the Farmer’s Cooperative Co. Wella leaves here to enter upon his new duties there Monday, while the family are as yet here awaiting the arrival there of their goods from Thorp, which on account of the snow and railroad tie-up, are so slow moving.
Miss Splise of Grand Rapids is the new Milliner engaged at the P.J. Kemmeter store this season, and will be on duty beginning tomorrow.
Ed Dolasse of Heintown is moving into the Ross Paulson tenant hose and will work for Paulson this summer.
John Mooney left for Oshkosh last week where he has accepted a position as fireman at St. Joseph’s Hospital.
Mr. and Mrs. Ray Campbell and children of Neillsville spent the weekend here with the Chas. Lowery family.
Miss Sadie Bass came home from Whitehall Monday for a several week vacation visit under the parental roof.
Paul Felser, Leslie and Ernest Todd and Perry Thayer were at Neillsville Monday evening and in attendance at Co. A. drill.
The fellow here buying ship timber for the past several weeks, with his crew of cutters and hewers, left here for Canada Monday. Fred Riedel and John Pietenpol have delivered some of this choice timber, which is being shipped to England.
Mrs. Aug. Holtz and her two youngest children, who came over from Neillsville last Saturday afternoon on a shopping trip, were, on account of the temporary tie-up in the train services, obliged to spend Saturday night and Sunday here with friends.
Miss Gladys Tremelling, who is attending the manual training school at Grand Rapids, came up Sunday to visit her sister Mrs. Lester Shafer and spend a week in the town of Lynn doing some preliminary work in the school as teacher.
School district No. 4, town of Grant, with Miss Daphne Beeckler teacher, will hold a basket social tonight (Friday) at the schoolhouse which everybody is cordially invited to. Ladies are requested to bring baskets and two cups each, for hot coffee will be served at lunch time.
