Schigley, Sophie R. (Beyerl) (9 MAR 1911 - 25 APR 2012)
Sophie R. Schigley, age 101, of Abbotsford, passed away Wednesday, April 25, 2012, at Ministry Saint Joseph’s Hospital in Marshfield.
Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, May 1, 2012, at 11 a.m. at Saint
Bernard’s Catholic Church in Abbotsford with Father Daniel Hackel officiating.
Burial will be in the Abbotsford Public Cemetery.
A visitation will be held from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday, April 30, 2012, at the Maurina-Schilling Funeral Home in Abbotsford with a prayer service at 7 p.m. and on Tuesday at the church from 10 a.m. until time of services.
Sophie Rosalia Beyerl was born March 9, 1911, in Colby, to Frank and Rosina (Gittle)
Beyerl, and attended both Dill Creek Elementary and Saint Mary’s Catholic Grade
School.
After graduating, she worked as a housekeeper in the Abbotsford and Colby area. On January 11, 1932, Sophie and Earl Schigley were united in marriage, at Saint Mary’s Catholic Church in Colby. They farmed in the Town of Colby for eight years and in 1940, they purchased a farm in the Town of Hoard. With retirement in 1971, they moved to Abbotsford. Sophie moved to the Angelus in Colby in 2005 and to the Pine Ridge Assisted Living in Colby in 2011. She will always be remembered for her love of gardening, cooking, baking and her special "grandma" recipes.
Sophie was a member of Saint Bernard’s Catholic Church in Abbotsford.
Evelyn is survived by her daughter, Arlene (Joseph) Gwozdz; her grandchildren,
Mary Jankee, Jeannie Keyzer, Joseph T. Gwozdz, Sandy (Spiro) Karidas and Jackie
(Pat) Ryan. 11 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; sisters,
Marie (late Herb) Waldhart, Margaret (Ed) Charnitz and Helen (late George)
Edelbeck; and brother, Jacob (late Rosemary) Beyerl.
Sophie is preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Rosina Beyerl; her
husband, Earl; her sisters, Martha (William) Dolan, Laura (Ervin) Meyer, Ida
(Ray) Draxler, Gertrude Godlewski; and brothers, Arnold Beyerl, John Beyerl,
Paul (Lucille) Beyerl and Francis P. Beyerl.
The Maurina Schilling Funeral Home in Abbotsford is assisting the family with
arrangements.
