Bierherr, Joseph #2 (? - 19 MAR 1917)

The body of the late Jos. Bierherr arrived here from Johnston, Ill. last Friday morning, accompanied by two of his brother workmen and lay in state here in the Union Church until Saturday afternoon when the funeral was held and burial made in the Windfall Cemetery.  Rev. Wilson Mallory officiated at the funeral.  Albert Porath drove in early Friday morning with the widow and her five children, and the Ross Paulson and Dan Rausch home sheltered these sorrowing ones until Sunday afternoon, when Mrs. Paulson had them taken home with one of the Paulson teams.  The roads at that time were particularly bad, in fact so bad that none of her neighbors were able to drive in and attend the funeral. Those attending the funeral were considerable in numbers however, although there were few from outside of the village.

It appears that deceased met instant death by an electric shock, an overhead conductor wire breaking and in the fall striking him on the neck.  The current of 45,000 volts passed through his body causing instant and painless death.  The mining company had the body prepared for burial and put into a handsome casket, paying all expenses of undertaking, casket, transportation, accompaniment, funeral and burial.  Deceased was a good man, a much loved husband and father, industrious and worthy and although financially poor, he had the good will and respect of his neighbors and although a comparative stranger here, leaves a goodly number of true friends.  Mrs. Bierherr, the widow, is a bright intelligent and resourceful woman, who with a little financial aid at this time, will keep her family together, educate them and bring them up as valuable citizens.
