Sumiec, John (24 JUN 1879 - 19 FEB 1961) John
Sumiec, 81, died of kidney ailment at St. Joseph Hospital, Chippewa Falls, Wis.
on Feb. 19, 1961.
Funeral services were held on Thursday morning, Feb. 23 with a Requiem Mass said
by Rev. Francis Disher at St. Hedwig’s Catholic Church, Thorp, Wis. Interment
took place in the new parish cemetery.
Pallbearers were Anton Sobolewski, Joseph Tobola, Chas. Deniszkiewicz, Paul
Konieczny, George Wartolec and Ig. Przybylski. Mr.
John Sumiec was born June 24, 1879 in Poland, coming to Newark, J.J. in 1903,
later the same year moved to Calumet, Mich. July 15, 1905 he married Sophia
Filipek and in 1914 moved to a farm in the town of Withee (Clark Co., Wis.).
Besides operating a nice farm, raising a family and being a model citizen, Mr.
Sumiec, during his younger days held the offices of Recording Secretary,
Treasurer and Vice President of Group 646, Polish National Alliance. He is
survived by his wife, three sons, Frank Sumiec, Jos. Sumiec, of Chicago, Stanley
Sumiec, Oaklawn, Ill., four daughters, (Marie) Mrs. Robert Bandlow,
Jacksonville, Fla., (Anna) Mrs. Andrew Sorg, Darien, Wis., (Sophie) Mrs. Walter
Noga of Chicago, (Clare) Mrs. Robert Allen of Tampa, Fla., two brothers in
Poland, one sister of Mauston and twelve grandchildren.
Relatives attending the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Frank Sumiec and daughters
Marcia and Sandra, Mr. and Mrs. Jos. Sumiec of Chicago, Mr. and Mrs. Stanley
Sumiec, Oaklawn, Ill., Mr. and Mrs. Robert Bandlow, Jacksonville, Fla., Mr. and
Mrs. Andrew Sorg and son Andrew of Darien, Wis., Mr. and Mrs. Walter Noga and
daughter Delores, Chicago, Mrs. Robert Allen, Tampa, Fla., Mr. and Mrs. Leo
Sumiec and Mr. and Mrs. Jos. Powers of Mauston, Wis.
