MacCornack, Dr. Robert Lee Sr. (8 January 1888 – 5
August 1966)
Dr. Robert L. MacCornack, Sr., 78, died last week
Wednesday afternoon at his home in Whitehall.
Services were held Sunday afternoon in Our Savior’s Lutheran Church,
Whitehall, Rev. O. G. Burkeland and Rev. Clifford Rittand officiating.
Interment was made in Lincoln Cemetery.
Robert Lee MacCornack was born near Elgin, Ill.,
January 8, 1888, the son of Robert John and Anna (Nesbit) MacCornack.
He was graduated from McAlester Classical Academy in 1909 and received
the degree of Doctor of Medicine from the University Of Illinois College Of
Medicine at Chicago in 1915.
Following two hospital internships he purchased the practice of Dr. John C.
Ducker in Alma Center in April 1917.
He enlisted in World War I with a commission of
first lieutenant, and was stationed at Fort Riley, Kans.
He received his discharge in December, 1918.
Following his discharge Dr. MacCornack practiced medicine in Blair for 16
months, and then formed a partnership at Whitehall in 1920 with his brother, Dr.
E. A. MacCornack, and Dr. Neil S. Simons, where he practiced until his
retirement in June, 1959.
He was the health officer for the city of Whitehall
from 1923 to 1963, served on the state board of health from 1937 to 1942, was a
president of the Whitehall Hospital board 33 years, was active in medical
associations and Boy Scouts, a 32nd degree Mason, member of the
Whitehall Chamber of Commerce and American Legion.
He married Gladys E. Fry of Merrillan on May 4,
1918, at Winona, Minn.
Survivors are his widow; a son, Dr. R. L.
MacCornack, Jr., of St. Paul; two daughters, Mrs. Robert Forsythe of Edina,
Minn., and Mrs. Alphonz Lamprecht of Long Island, N. Y.; a brother, Dr. Donald
MacCornack of Boulder City, Nev.; and 11 grandchildren.
