Jacob Sniegowski (23 JUN 1876 - 25 MAR 1961)

 

Last rites were conducted at St. Hedwig’s Catholic Church here at 10:00 Monday, March 27th by Father Francis Przybylski of Plover for Jacob Sniegowski, 84, a retired Reseburg (Clark Co., Wis.) farmer who passed away at his home in the city of old age infirmities on Saturday, march 25, 1961.

 

Mr. Sniegowski was born in Poznan, Poland on June 23, 1876.  He came to America in 1890 and located in Chicago where he was employed, and on Nov. 25, 1902 was united in marriage to Joanna Burkhardt at St. John’s Catholic Church.  He came to Thorp with his wife and family in 1908 and operated a farm in the Town of Reseburg, 3 ½ miles southeast of the city, until 1948 when he moved to the city of Thorp and resided here until death.  Mr. Sniegowski was active in civic affairs in the township, school district and church, and served as an official in various capacities.

 

Besides his wife Joanna, he is survived by seven sons, Joseph, Stanley, Chester, Florian and Erwin of Thorp, Edward of Mosinee, Wis., and Casimer of Chicago; five daughters, Helen, Mrs. John Hmielak, Jean, Mrs. Ben Koltis, Alice, Mrs. Al Ciolkosz, and Loretta, Mrs. Wm. Schultze, all of Thorp, and Harriet, Mrs. Frank Lutz of Chicago; one brother, John Burkhardt of Chicago, 28 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.Two sons, Frank and Walter, preceded him in death.

 

He was laid to rest in the family lot in St. Hedwig’s Cemetery.  Grandsons served as pallbearers: Lawrence Ciolkosz, David, Frank and James Sniegowski, William Huls and Eugene Zdroik.

 

Jacob Sniegowski  is buried in the cemetery behind St. Hedwig's Church,

in a Polish settlement known as "Poznan".  It is located 2 miles East of Thorp, Wisconsin on County Rd. X.
