Search for Carl Rockstad,
82, town of McKinley resident in northwestern Taylor Co., Wis., missing since a
week ago Monday afternoon, ended with the discovery of his body in the swollen
Jump River shortly after 9 o’clock Thursday morning.
Rockstad had been making
maple syrup in the woods near his home.
When he failed to return home Monday night, his wife called neighbors,
who started to search for him.
Taylor and Rusk County authorities joined the search later.
While the search was in
progress, the man’s coat was found along the bank of Shoulders Creek.
His axe was found on a small foot bridge that crosses the creek.
The creek flows into Jump River.
Both are flooded.
An unidentified man, who
had participated in the search since it started, discovered the body.
Taylor County Coroner
James Amo, Medford, has ruled the death as accidental.
