Becker, George F. (22 FEB 1880 - 19 APR 1961)

Funeral services were conducted by Father Hebert Hoffman at St. Bernard’s Church in the city at 9:30 o’clock Saturday morning, April 22nd, for George F. Becker of Thorp, who passed away of a heart attack at the Stanley hospital on April 19, 1961.  He became sick at the post office in thorp, taken home, and then to the hospital the same morning.  He had reached the age of 80 years and 2 months.

The deceased was born in Manitowoc on Feb. 22, 1880 and there he spent his younger days.  He was united in marriage to Rose Gertrude Braun at Athens, Wis., on July 23, 1912.  They resided also at Abbotsford before coming to thorp in 1913, which has since been his home.

Mr. Becker went into business here as a photographer and later as operator of the Becker Hotel and bowling alleys.  He was also manager of the Becker Orchestra here for many years.  He retired from business several years ago, but still made his home here (Thorp, Clark Co., Wis.)

Besides his invalid wife, he is survived by one brother, John Becker, and one sister, Mrs. Mary Kauffman of Manitowoc.  His parents, three brothers and one sister preceded him in death.

He was laid to rest in St. Bernard’s Cemetery.  Pallbearers were Victor Verner, Walter Baldeschwiler, Julius Morgan, Frank Wadzinski, Benny Burkhardt and Frank Giwojna.
