DiGangi, Martha Marcella (6 January 1919 - 27 May 2012)

Martha M. DiGangi, age 93, of Thorp, passed away on Sunday, May 27, 20112, at Oakbrook Health & Rehab in Thorp. As per Martha’s request, private funeral services were held on Thursday, May 31, 2012, with burial following in St. Hedwig’s Catholic Cemetery. Pallbearers were: Joseph Pletka, Jr., Kevin Beaufeaux, Ray and Jimmy Mendalski, Len Butek, and Keith Westaby.

Martha Marcella Mendalski was born on January 6, 1919, in rural Thorp, WI to Peter and Mary (Wasilewski) Mendalski. She was raised on the family farm and received her education at Yaeger State Grade School and Thorp High School. She first entered the job market as a cook-housekeeper at the Norton’s Soo Hotel in Thorp. She then moved to Illinois and worked for the Continental Can Co. until her retirement. After her retirement, Martha continued to live in Argo, IL, until moving back to Thorp to live with her father.

Martha was a member of St. Bernard-St. Hedwig Catholic Church and was active in its Parish Council of Catholic Women, working at the Quonset Hall or the Church Hall as much as she could. In her spare time, she especially enjoyed gardening.

In April 2010, she entered Oakbrook Health & Rehab, in Thorp, and resided there until the time of her passing.

She is survived by one brother, Theodore Mendalski of Las Vegas, NV; and one sister, Berniece Pletka of Thorp; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins, whom she love dearly.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Joseph, in May 1996; two sisters: Frances Smoczyk and her husbanded, Frank, and Rose Luzinski and her husband, Peter; two brothers: Thomas Mendalski and his wife, Josephine, and Conrad Mendalski; and one brother-in-law, Joseph Pletka.

The family wishes to thank Dr. Charles Wirtz, Peter Gintner PA-C, and the entire staff at Oakbrook Health & Rehab for their loving care during her stay there.
