DiGangi, Martha Marcella (6 January 1919

Martha M. DiGangi, age 93, of Thorp, passed away on
Sunday, May 27, 20112, at Oakbrook Health & Rehab in Thorp. As per Martha’s
request, private funeral services were held on Thursday, May 31, 2012, with
burial following in St. Hedwig’s Catholic Cemetery. Pallbearers were: Joseph
Pletka, Jr., Kevin Beaufeaux, Ray and Jimmy Mendalski, Len Butek, and Keith
Westaby.
Martha Marcella Mendalski was born on January 6, 1919, in rural
Thorp, WI to Peter and Mary (Wasilewski) Mendalski. She was raised on the family
farm and received her education at Yaeger State Grade School and Thorp High
School. She first entered the job market as a cook-housekeeper at the Norton’s
Soo Hotel in Thorp. She then moved to Illinois and worked for the Continental
Can Co. until her retirement. After her retirement, Martha continued to live in
Argo, IL, until moving back to Thorp to live with her father.
Martha was
a member of St. Bernard-St. Hedwig Catholic Church and was active in its Parish
Council of Catholic Women, working at the Quonset Hall or the Church Hall as
much as she could. In her spare time, she especially enjoyed gardening.
In April 2010, she entered Oakbrook Health & Rehab, in Thorp, and resided there
until the time of her passing.
She is survived by one brother, Theodore
Mendalski of Las Vegas, NV; and one sister, Berniece Pletka of Thorp; numerous
nieces, nephews and cousins, whom she love dearly.
She was preceded in
death by her parents; her husband, Joseph, in May 1996; two sisters: Frances
Smoczyk and her husbanded, Frank, and Rose Luzinski and her husband, Peter; two
brothers: Thomas Mendalski and his wife, Josephine, and Conrad Mendalski; and
one brother-in-law, Joseph Pletka.
The family wishes to thank Dr.
Charles Wirtz, Peter Gintner PA-C, and the entire staff at Oakbrook Health &
Rehab for their loving care during her stay there.
