Staron, Mr./Mrs. Joseph (Gold - 18 FEB
1961)
Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Staron, residents of Park Avenue, Stanley,
celebrated their golden wedding anniversary on Sunday, June 4, 1961. The event
was held belatedly so that all of the children could be present.
They
began their special day by attending a Golden anniversary mass in their honor,
celebrated by Father Ed Masalewicz at St. Mary’s Church, Junction. Six little
granddaughters, Pamela Osowski, Joan Staron, Kathleen Staron, Gail Dums, Marji
Staron, and Shelly Nychel were flowers girls to lead the bride and groom of 50
years in church up to the sanctuary. Before the mass they were presented with a
gold cane, a token to escort them for many years to come, also each was
presented with a gold rosary, gifts of the children. The junior choir sang,
accompanied by Genevieve Bania, a granddaughter of the Jubilarians. After Mass
the honored couple received a papal blessing, a special remembrance of Holy
Father Pope John. A dinner was served at one o’clock in the church hall with 250
guests present. A special feature here was the surprise history of the lives of
her parents by a daughter, Frances. A son Edward expressed a kind word of
welcome and thank you to all guests. Special guests attending were Father
Masalewicz, Father George Mathieu and his parents, Stanley, Wis.
In the
afternoon the family group returned to the city to spend a social hour together
and in the evening a dance was held in honor of the Starons at the hall in
Junction.
Mrs. Staron was attired in a navy blue dress with white trim
and black accessories. Her corsage was of yellow roses. The groom of fifty years
ago wore a yellow rose boutonniere in the lapel of his suit.
Many gifts,
messages and a purse of money were presented to the honored couple. The children
honored them with a Golden Anniversary Sacred Heart picture.
The former
Josephine Ciolkosz and Joseph Staron were united in holy matrimony in St.
Albert’s Church in Chicago on Feb. 18, 1911. After three years they moved to the
farm in the Junction country (Clark Co., Wis.) north of Stanley. They are
members of St. Mary’s Church in Stanley at present. The Starons are a “young” 67
and 72 years of age, respectively, and enjoy good health, doing their own work
which includes garden and flower garden.
Their ten children, all present
Sunday, are: Mrs. Walter Bania (Anna) of Junction; John of Melrose Park, Ill.;
Miss Frances of Bellwood, Ill.; Mrs. Walter (Adelaide) Dums of Chicago; Mrs.
Henry (Eugenia) Nyckey of Bellwood, Ill.; Frederick of Berkley, Ill.; Edward of
Missoula, Mont.; Adam of Bellwood, Ill.; Mrs. Thomas (Lauerncia) Osowski of
Thorp; and Lawrence of Springfield, Ill. One son lost his life in World War II,
and three children died in infancy. Twenty eight of their thirty grandchildren,
as well as many other relatives were also present at the happy event on Sunday.
