Dobes, Frank C. (2 December 1899 - 16 September 1966)
Funeral services were held Tuesday morning from St. Mary’s Catholic Church for
Frank C. Dobes, 67, long-time sheriff and under-sheriff of Clark County who died
in Marshfield Friday. Mr. Dobes had been in failing health for several years.
Mr. Dobes, who had served two and one-half terms as sheriff of Clark County,
also served for nine years as the under-sheriff under Ray Kutsche. He was
considered by area law enforcement officials as one of the finest investigative
officers to serve Clark County.
A native of Jackson County, Mr. Dobes was
born there December 2, 1889, the son of the late Frank and Anna (Fiala) Dobes.
He came to Clark County with his parents when a small child and the family
located on a farm in the Town of Levis.
On October 30, 1919, he was
married to Anna Hudec in Neillsville. She died in January, 1966. Mr. and Mrs.
Dobes farmed until 1944, when they moved to Neillsville.
Mr. Dobes is
survived by two sisters, Mrs. Christine Meier of Neillsville, and Mrs. Frank
(Julia) Vendl of North Judson, Ind.
He was a member of St. Mary’s
Catholic Church and its Holy Name Society.
A rosary service was said
Monday evening at the Georgas Funeral Home.
Pallbearers were: Ray
Kutsche, Frank Svetlik, William Schwellenbach, Harry Frantz, Henry Langreck and
Martin Feuerstein.
People from out of town attending the service
included Mrs. Frank Vendl, Mr. and Mrs. Victor Hudec of North Judson, Ind.; Mrs.
Barbara Jezek of Cicero, Ill.; Robert Hudec of Berwyn, Ill.; Mr. and Mrs. Frank
Wendell, Chuck Wendell, Mrs. Donald E. Engebretson, all of Black River Falls;
Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Zschernitz and Louis Koran of Marshfield; Glenn Zschernitz
of Minneapolis, Minn.; Mr. and Mrs., LaVerne Zschernitz of Stanley; Mr. and Mrs.
Paul Ampe and Mrs. Henry Aumann of Loyal.
Many law officers from
surrounding counties attended the funeral in a body.
