Marden, Mr./Mrs.William#2(57th Anniversary - 30 August 1953)

On Sunday evening, August 30, 1953, Mr. and Mrs. William Marden celebrated their Fifty-Seventh Wedding anniversary. Although September 1st was the correct date, the celebration was held on Sunday.
A program was held at the Grace Methodist Church followed by pot-luck lunch in the church parlors. The program consisted of community singing: Mrs. A.E. Elmer who is 86 years old sang “I Must Have My Savior With Me;” The Misses Gladys and Carol Drew sang “The Lord Is My Shepherd: and Miss Nettie Miller sang “In The Garden” and accompanied herself on her electric guitar.

Rev. Arthur Riley, Pastor, gave a very nice talk and offered a prayer. This was followed by the lunch in the church parlors. The Marden’s received many nice gifts and a purse of money which they donated toward the organ fund of the church.

William Marden, son of William Wallace and Charlotte Marden was born on March 22, 1875 at Lloyd, Richland County and came with his parents to Clark County when he was five years old, settling on a farm near Globe and later moving to Neillsville.

Mrs. Marden, nee Daisy Hale, was born in Lime Ridge, Sauk County, the daughter of Alonza and Elizabeth Hale and came with her parents to Clark County when eleven years old. The family settled in Neillsville.
On September 1, 1896, Wm. Marden and Daisy Hale were married at Hewettville, near Neillsville. They lived for a time at Globe where Mr. Marden was Postmaster and carried mail between Neillsville and Globe. Later they moved to Neillsville where Mr. Marden took up jewelry work. He attended school In Illinois and upon his return worked at this trade in Neillsville.

Their two children Vivian Ione Clow and Kenneth were born in Neillsville. Both have passed away.

In 1915, the Marden’s came to Greenwood where they have since made their home and where Mr. Marden continued his trade as a jeweler.

The Marden’s have a daughter-in-law, three grandchildren: Mrs. John (Billy Jean Pitt) Howard of El Monte, Calif.; Mrs. Jack (Betty Lou Marden) Krueger of Loyal; and Kenneth Jr., with the Navy and stationed at New York. They also have three great grandchildren, Pricilla Ann and Kathleen Kruger, Loyal; and Stanley Howard of El Monte, Calif.

Mr. Marden has two brothers, Stephen of Bay View, Wash., and Erv of Woodland, Wash. Mrs. Marden has two sisters, Mrs. Homer (Edith) Wood, Merrillan, and one brother Henry Hale, Black River Falls.
