Sommers, George (11 SEPT 1902-19 APR 1960)

George Sommers, 57, died in Loyal Tuesday morning of this week. His body was discovered by Soo Line employees along the railroad right away behind the Lakeshire-Marty plant shortly after 10 a.m. Company authorities were notified and began an investigation of the circumstances surrounding his death.

County Coroner Robert Lulloff, who was also called to the scene, said that death was caused by a single gunshot wound in the head and that it apparently self-inflicted. A report that three shots had been heard by an area resident earlier that morning was verified by Coroner Lulloff who found three spent shells in the gun.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Loyal. The body will lie in state at the Myre Funeral Home from Friday night until noon on Saturday when it will be taken to the church. The Rev. V. A. Ganz will officiate and burial will be in the Loyal Cemetery.

George Sommers was born in the town of Hull, Marathon County, Sept. 11, 1902. He lived on a farm there until soon after his marriage when he moved to Loyal where he has since resided. He was married to Ione Windsor at Colby, Nov. 15, 1929. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church.

George Sommers had been in ill health the past two years and on April 2nd terminated 19 years of employment at the O. W. Trindal Co. In respect to his memory, Trindals will close at 1 p.m. on Saturday.

He is survived by his wife, one step-son, Dale, and two brothers, Henry Sommers of Colby and Carl Sommers of Unity. One brother and one sister preceded him in death.
