Benzschawel, Ruth (8 JUL
1961)
Ruth Benzschawel, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Benzschawel,
became the bride of Robert Luken, St. Paul, Minn. The bridegroom is the son of
Mrs. August Luken, Granville, Iowa.
St. Bernard’s Church in Thorp was the
setting for the 9:30 a.m. nuptial Mass on Saturday, July 8, 1961, with Father
Becker as celebrant. Mr. Benzschawel escorted his daughter to the altar.
The bride wore an original gown of imported silk organza and lace. From the long
sleeved, scoop neckline lace bodice, the valenciennes skirt swept into a full
chapel train, edged with a wide panel of scalloped lace. Her veil of imported
French illusion was bouffant and fell from a matching silk organza petal effect
pearl headpiece. She carried a horseshoe shaped bouquet of white carnations and
red roses.
Miss Doris Benzschawel, Thorp, was maid of honor, and Miss Ann
Vanderhyden of Thorp served as bridesmaid. Flower girl was Debbie Sawczuk, niece
of the bride.
Don Elliott, St. Paul, Minn., attended the groom as best
man. Groomsman was Ronald Benzschawel, Minneapolis. Ring bearer was Jimmy Harm,
nephew of the groom, and ushers were Alvin Harm and Alvin Benzschawel.
A
wedding breakfast was served for 75 guests at St. Bernard’s Hall, followed by an
afternoon reception at the Legion Hall in Thorp for 175 guests.
After a
trip to South Dakota, Mr. and Mrs. Luken will reside at 1967 Grand Ave., St.
Paul, Minn.
The bride is a graduate of the Thorp High School, and is a
clerk/typist at Remington Rand Univac, St. Paul, Minn. The groom is a graduate
of Iowa State University and is an electrical engineer with Remington Rand
Univac.
