Carol Franz Named County Dairy
Queen
Resident of Town of Hull, Aged 21 Years; Former Queens in attendance at
Wisconsin Valley Fair at Wausau.
Miss Carol A. Franz, 21, town of Hull,
was crowned Marathon county dairy queen last week at the Wisconsin Valley Fair
and Exposition. The ceremony was brief and opened with the introduction of Miss
Dorothy Hughes, town of Cleveland, the 1941 dairy queen who was present. Louis
Pauls, of Schofield, chairman of the Marathon county board of supervisors,
crowned the queen by removing the crown and a charming red mantle which had been
worn by Miss Hughes, and placed them on the new queen. The crown was adorned
with flowers made of savings stamps. The dainty queen is the daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. Henry Franz, who were present to witness the ceremony. Miss Franz will
enter the state dairy queen contest at the State fair this week at West Allis.
She will be given a trip to the fair with all expenses paid in addition to which
the dairy day committee of which Henry Sloan, town of Stettin is chairman, will
purchase the outfit which she will be given to wear in the state event, with
contributions received from various sources. In the dairy queen contest held in
1936, sponsored at the request of the state department of agriculture and
markets, Miss Delores Keyes of Spencer was crowned dairy queen of Marathon
county and won first place in the state contest.
