Sends Letter to Relatives In This
Community; Hopes to Visit Here Soon; Now Located In the South.
Dear
Sister and All: I have never written so many letters in such a short time in my
life. I’m trying to write a brief note to all of you and try to explain why I
got into the Service so quick and not at least come up and spend a few days at
home. I’m going to do that however at my first opportunity. It’s hard not to
make all these letters the same since there is so little to say or that I can
tell you. I have only just arrived and finished checking in at the station.
Genie is still in Columbus. I talked to her last night and told her to pack
everything and put it in storage for the duration. She plans to spend several
months in the state of Washington with her mother, and from then on we hope to
be together again but all plans are subject to change at times like this. I’ve
written Dad, Marlyn and Lorraine just now so you can all get together and
compare notes. Maybe I should write to all of you with carbon paper and in that
way save a little time. I’ve been thinking of all of you a lot even though I
have not written. The time has just not been available. Beginning Monday I doubt
whether I get much time even to write a brief note to all of you. However I’ll
expect your letters and I’ll do my best. Write and give me all the news about
the family and please don’t send me anything because they treat you like kings
down here and you want for nothing. We are not allowed any form of food in our
quarters. I thought I would mention that since there would be nothing we could
do with it when it got here if any of the folks might plan on sending something.
My vest best to all of you.
