Laffe, Louis George (15 May 1887 -October
1966)
Louis George Laffe, 79, was born and raised east of Humbird, in
Clark County. He was born on May 15, 1887, to George Laffe and Lizzie (nee
Eisenhart) Laffe. After his parents moved to town he did some work on the
railroad, but grew to love carpentering. He was still working at his trade this
summer whenever possible. In his youth he played trombone in the Humbird Band.
He has always attended St. John’s Church and served many hours. He married Emma
Rieder on January 28, 1915, at Neillsville.
Four children were born to
this couple: Herman of Fairchild, Hilda (Mrs. James Sutton), of Merrillan,
Arthur, Humbird, and Esther (Mrs. Phil Haugstad), Black River Falls, all of whom
survive. There are 18 grandchildren and one great-grandchild; two sisters, Emma
(Mrs. Frank Haag) of North Bend, and Mary Iffland of Humbird; and two brothers,
Leonard and Henry, both of Humbird. One brother, Frederick, preceded him in
death.
