Winn, Dora (10 April 1885 - 23
October 1966)
Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at 1:30 p.m.
from the Georgas Funeral Home for Mrs. Dora Wage Winn, 81, long time Granton
resident and correspondent for the Clark County Press who died Sunday at her
home in Neillsville. The Rev. W. C. Koehler of the United Church of Christ
officiated and burial was made in the Town of Grant Cemetery.
Dora Wage
Winn was born April 10, 1885, in Clark County. Her parents were the late Thomas
and Henrie Ettie (Foster) Wage. She was educated in the Granton School and
attended the Clark County Normal School in Neillsville. She taught rural schools
in Clark County.
On April 7, 1909, she was married to Floyd Winn in
Granton. Mr. Winn died November 11, 1965. Following their marriage they made
their home in Granton, where Mrs. Winn was very active in community affairs.
She had been a member of the Priscilla Sewing Club, the Circle of the United
Church, clerk of the Granton Public School for 12 years, census reporter in 1930
and again in 1950, reporter for the Clark County Press and the Marshfield
News-Herald, a feature writer for The Milwaukee Journal, member of the Rural
Writers of America, a member of the York Grange, 4-H leader, organizer of the
Granton library, first president of the Granton Civic Club, chairman of the
summer entertainment in Granton, co-chairman of the old Settlers Society, and a
member of the Clark County Historical Society.
She is survived by four
children: Mrs. John F. (Kathryn) Mosby of West Chicago, Ill.; Mrs. Bernard
(Patricia) Stelljes of Montgomery, N. Y.; Mrs. John H. (Doris) West of San
Antonio, Tex.; and John Wage Winn of Glencoe, Minn. Other survivors are a
sister, Miss Gladys Wage of Neillsville, and four grandchildren.
“Beautiful Isle of Somewhere” and “Sometime We’ll Understand” were sung by Mrs.
William Schmidtke, accompanied by Mrs. Jess W. Scott.
Pallbearers were:
Lucien Moh, Irving Gower, William Beeckler, Hugo Trimberger, Milo Mabie and Lyle
Fero.

Wisconsin Rapids; Ralph Winn of Waukesha; Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Winn and Scott of
Harrisburg, Pa.; Mr. and Mrs. Don Wilson of Clayton; Mrs. George Braudt of
Amery; Mr. and Mrs. Howard Crossgrove of Colby; Mrs. Bertha Meissner, Mrs. Lena
Bealer, Mr. and Mrs. Forrest Greene, all of Chili; R. S. Thompson of Tacoma,
Wash.; Mr. and Mrs. Harold Kihn of Wautoma; Mrs. Earl Plettner and Mrs. Frank
Berentsen of Milwaukee; Bill Scheuring of Greenwood; and many folks from the
Granton community.
