UNITY LOCAL
NEWS
Mr. and Mrs. Charles Justman and daughter Judy of Oshkosh were the
guests of relatives in this community last week. Charles, who has been ill for
most of a year, has so far recovered as to be able to return to his work.
The Justman portable mill, which has been doing custom sawing for the
farmers in Clark county, finished its run last week.
Mrs. F. E.
Wernzenski of Abbotsford has been substituting for Stanley Mauritz at the high
school for the past two weeks, during which time Mr. Maruitz has been in
quarantine. She has been teaching the Social Science classes.
The school
board is finding it difficult to fill the teaching posiiton of Leonard
Summerfeldt, who is now in the Army. Besides teaching agriculture, Mr.
Summerfeldt taught the science classes and thus far they have not been able to
find a science teacher. As far as the agricultural classes are concerned it is
impossible to find a teacher and the class may have to be dropped until such
time as one can be found. Prin. Parsons is at present teaching the science
classes besides his own.
Mrs. Elmer Langjahr spent the week-end with Mr.
and Mrs. Mark Shuckhart of Brantwood returning Monday morning.
The
Trinity Lutheran Ladies Aid held their Christmas party at the church Wednesday
afternoon. There was a good attendance and the afternoon was most pleasantly
spent. The hostesses were Mrs. Albert Weiland, Mrs. Walter Weiland and Mrs. Mary
Weiland.
Mr. and Mrs. Rudy Anderson of Marshfield were the guests of Mrs.
Anderson’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Binning last Sunday afternoon.
Thanksgiving guests at the home of Mrs. John W. Salter were Miss Jane Salter of
Madison and Misses Gladys and Pearl Salter of Prentice.
Mr. and Mrs.
Melvin Tennis and family drove to Abbotsford Sunday afternoon where they spent
the day with Mr. and Mrs. Ed. Stock.
This Friday evening, Dec. 11 the
Lady Gray Rebekah lodge is holding its Christmas party at the I. O.O.F. hall.
Besides the regular lodge work there will be a pot luck lunch. The sewing circle
will also meet Friday.
Ben Bruer spent several days last week at Portage
transacting business, returning home Friday.
Edward J. Feit spent the
week-end with his brother William and family and his mother, Mrs. Mary Feit at
Duluth, Minn.
Next Monday evening, Dec. 14, there will be a joint meeting
of the American Legion and Auxiliary. The meeting is to be held at the dining
room of the Methodist church and will be a Christmas party with luncheon and
