Kern, Lena (29 August 1874 - 27 October 1966)
Mrs. George Kern, 92, died of a heart attack last Thursday in Neillsville.
She had been ill with pneumonia and a hospital patient 15 days.
The
former Lena Sundemeyer was born to Henry and Lena Sundemeyer August 29, 1874, in
Lipphdepmold, Germany, and at the age of five years came with her parents to the
United States. The family settled in Sheboygan and two years later moved to a
farm northwest of Greenwood. She was married to George Kern on January 22, 1896,
in Greenwood and made their home in the Greenwood area. Mr. Kern died August 24,
1962.
Survivors are five sons, George H. of Marshfield, Clarence of
Georgetown, Minn., William, address unknown, Theodore and Edward of Greenwood;
four daughters, Miss Rose Kern of Greenwood, Mrs. Otto (Mabel) Moldenhauer, Mrs.
Leonard (Hazel) Mueller and Mrs. Violet Seroski, all of Chicago; a brother,
William Sundemeyer of Groton, S.D.; three sisters, Mrs. Fred (Jennie) Clocksene
of Groton, S.D.; Mrs. Minnie Glau of Seattle, Wash., and Mrs. Marie Meinhardt of
Greenwood; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral
services were held Monday afternoon from the Hill Funeral home in Greenwood with
the Rev. Arvid Myhrwold officiating. Burial was made in the Riverside Cemetery
at Withee.
