Melbinger, Joseph #3 (19 MAR 1884 - 25 AUG 1961)
Joseph Melbinger, retired farmer, who had been a resident of Owen (Clark
Co., Wis.) since his retirement in 1951, succumbed Friday, Aug. 25th, 1961 to
complications of old age. He passed away at the Victory Memorial Hospital at
Stanley. He had been hospitalized since being transferred from St. Joseph’s
Hospital at Marshfield, where he had undergone major surgery and treatment for
six weeks.
A Requiem Mass was conducted at 11:00 o’clock Monday morning,
Aug. 28 at St. Katherine’s Episcopal Church, Owen, with Father John English
serving as officiant.
Joseph Melbinger, 77, was born March 19, 1884 at
Thorp, Wis. For a number of years he worked as a teamster in St. Paul, Minn. It
was in that city in 1907 that he exchanged the sacred vows of marriage with his
widow, the former Anna Erban. In 1911, the couple left St. Paul, moving to a
farm in the town of Reseburg, Clark County, which they pioneered and developed
until their retirement to Owen in 1951.
In addition to his wife he is
survived by two sons, Arleigh of North Riverside, Ill., and Celand, Owen; three
grandchildren and one great-grandson.
