Bartsch, Elmer (8 JAN 1917 - 1 MAY 1917)

Elmer Bartsch, one of twin babies born to Mr. and Mrs. Herman Bartsch Jan. 8th, 1917, died Tuesday, May 1st, 1917, after a short illness with pneumonia. The little one was always frail, and when pneumonia developed, his life was despaired of. This is the sixth child these parents have lost in the death of this little one, they are left childless.

The sympathy of the entire community goes out to these sorrowing ones in their affliction. The funeral was held from the home at 1 o’clock Thursday afternoon, Rev. M. Hasz of the Maple Works German Lutheran Church officiating. The pallbearers were Louis Helm, Arnold Sternitzky, Charlie Schlinsog and Willie Marg. Interment was made in the church cemetery.

(Additional Note)

Dear Stan,

Thank you for making this posting of Elmer Bartsch: http://www.wiclarkcountyhistory.org/4data/87/87329.htm. I was given a picture and told that it was of the Bartsch twins with their father. It has been a mystery to me of which twins were in that picture (if it even is Bartsch). I could find no evidence that it was Elmer and Friedrich. As you can see from the picture the twins are old enough to toddle. Neither of Herman and Anna's twins reached that age. So the mystery narrows but another question arises in my mind. Who would've written that caring obit for Herman and Anna - the church? After the loss of six children I can't image the  feelings they would've experienced - especially to see their siblings' children.

Thanks,

Mike m.l.bartsch@sbcglobal.net
