Loy, Sylvester (Pat) (19 FEB 1860 - 15 NOV 1914)
Sylvester Loy died last
Sunday morning at his home on 6th Street after an illness of several months
duration. He was born at Monroe on Feb. 19, 1860, and was united in marriage to
Mary Jane St. Claire on March 30, 1884. They were the parents of two sons, one
of whom, Joseph, died about five years ago. Mr. Loy was a mason by trade and
brought his family to Neillsville thirty years ago and took up his work here. He
lived here continuously for twenty years and ten years ago bought a farm north
of town and lived there until a few months ago when he sold out on account of
his poor health and came back to the city. Mr. Loy was a conscientious gentleman
and workman and was held in high esteem by all with whom he had occasion to come
in contact. He is survived by his wife and son, Guy, and also by his
step-mother, Mrs. A.W. Loy, and step-sister, Mrs. C.J. Bigelow, and uncle, Wm.
Campbell.
The funeral was held Tuesday afternoon at the Presbyterian
church and after a brief sermon by Rev. Pinney, the Modern Woodmen took charge
of the remains of their fellow lodge member and conducted the burial service.
Interment was made in the Neillsville Cemetery. Those from out of town who were
here for the funeral were Wm. Campbell of Waupaca, Mrs. A.W. Loy of Greenwood,
Mr. and Mrs. C.J. Bigelow of Tioga, Mrs. E.J. Williams and daughter of Superior,
Mr. and Mrs. Ira Niles of Spring Valley, Chas. Bass and family of Lynn, and Mrs.
Chas. Sheppard of Osseo.
