21 June 2012)
Helen Ziemba, age 91, of Stanley, passed away on Thursday,
June 21, 2012, at the Clark County Health Care Center, Owen. She was born
January 12, 1921, in Lublin, the daughter of the late Steven & Katherine (Niec)
Shewczyk. She grew u p in Lublin, attending area schools. On October 25, 1941,
she was united in marriage to Frank Ziemba in Chicago, Ill. In 1948, they moved
to Stanley and purchased the “Little Club Tavern,” and in 1960 they built
Ziemba’s Bowl-a-Bar which they ran until 1976 upon retirement. Helen was a long
time member of Holy Family Catholic Church of Stanley, of which she was the
janitor for many years. In her spare time she enjoyed knitting and crocheting
items for her family.
Helen is survived by her children: Ron (Nancy)
Ziemba of Gilman, Robert (Susan) Ziemba of Mazeppa, MN, and daughter, Patty
Ziemba of Madison; six grandchildren: Terri, Tammy, Greg, Steven, Ian, and
Lucas; four great-grandchildren; and one sister, Stella Gomulka of Lublin.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Frank, in 1990; sisters:
Julia Rusnak, Ann Schumann, Eva Lindbergh, Olga Munson, Pauline Lencz and Rosie
Krawchuk; and two brothers: Nick and Harry Shewczyk.
A Memorial Mass will
be held on Friday, July 6, 2012, at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church
with Fr. William Felix officiating. Inurnment will follow in the parish
cemetery. Friends and family may call from 9-11:00 a.m. at the church on Friday.
Plombon Funeral Service of Stanley is assisting the family with arrangements. In
lieu of flowers, donations to the Stanley Historical Society are recommended.
