Zettler, George R. (23 MAR 1933 - 1 JUL 2012)

George Robert Zettler, 79, of Burlington, passed away Sunday, July 1, 2012, in Spirit Lake, WI. George was born on March 23, 1933, in Unity, WI, to the late Anthony and Lauretta (nee Habeck) Zettler. He was a graduate of Colby High School, class of 1951, and proudly served in the United States Navy, from 1952 until 1956, during the Korean Conflict.

On September 6, 1958 in Stratford, George was united in marriage to Maxine Bradley.

George worked as a machinist in Colby, before moving to Burlington where he worked as a maintenance mechanic for Packaging Corporation of America. He retired from PCA in 1998. He was an active member of Our Savior Lutheran Church, including trustee as well as the Senior Group. George was a life member of the VFW and a member of the Burlington Auxiliary Police. He was a jack of all trades who could fix anything and had the tools to go with it. George enjoyed camping, fishing, hunting, woodworking, and he especially enjoyed his summers camping at Spirit Lake.

George is survived by his loving wife, Maxine; their son, Brian Zettler of Burlington; sisters, Mary Ann Hinkelmann of Spencer; and Janice (Dave) Fitzsimmons of Streator, IL; sisters-in-law, Bernice (Jim) Mercer of Marshfield; and Virjean Brandt of Marshfield; brothers-in-law. Rick (Sandy) Bradley of Fenwood; and John Conner of Marshfield; and by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. George was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Holly Zettler; brothers, Kenneth and Ronald; in-laws, Harvey and Gertrude Bradley; brothers-in-law, Alfred Hinkelmann and Fred Bradley; and by sister-in-law, Janet Conner.

Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, July 5, 2012, at 11:30 a.m. at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Burlington, with Pastor Rob Bolling officiating. Burial will follow at Burlington Cemetery. Relatives and friends may visit with the family at the CHURCH on Thursday, from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m.
