Seif, John A. (15 October 1878 - 6 January 1967)

Funeral services were held Monday afternoon from the Georgas Funeral Home for John A. Seif, 88, of Memorial Home, who died Friday in Neillsville. The Rev. W. C. Koehler of the United Church of Christ officiated. Burial was made in the Town of Weston Cemetery.

A lifelong resident of Clark County, Mr. Seif was born October 15, 1878, in the Town of Sherwood. His parents were the late Fred and Mary (Wiesner) Seif. He attended school in the Town of Sherwood, later moving to the Town of Seif with his parents by oxen team. He spent 65 years on the home farm in the town of Seif. He served as town chairman for 12 years, and held the offices of assessor and school treasurer for several terms.

Mr. Seif retired from farming in 1947 and moved to Neillsville. In his early days he worked in saw mills and drove logs down Black River from Medford to La Crosse.

On January 16, 1903, he was married to the former Adella Jacklin in Neillsville. She died in 1962. In 1964 he was married to Carrie Johnson in Neillsville.

Mr. Seif is survived by his wife and three children, Mrs. Lloyd (Viola) Nelson of Milaca, Minn., Harley of Milwaukee, and Robert of rural Neillsville. He also is survived by the following step-children: Edith Stout of Rockford, Ill., Arthur Johnson of Belleville, Ill. and Elmer Johnson of DeKalb, Ill. Other survivors are two brothers, Dave of Neillsville and Charles of La Crosse; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
