On May 26, 1979 the graduating class of 1954, Loyal, held their 25 year reunion
at the Loyal Legion Hall. Decorations were in the class colors of blue and
white, and the table centerpieces were yellow roses. Thirty one of the original
classmates were present. Class advisors, Mr. Vern Dahlby, Mr. J.R. Thomas, and
Miss Eileen Hopkins also attended.
Those on the reunion committee were Rose Marie (Degenhardt) Gregorich, Marlene
(Loos) Hinker, and Gwen (Fensome) Pigott.
The evening began by pinning the name and graduating picture of each class
member on themselves as they arrived. Everyone enjoyed comparing present face
with that of 1954. For some it was the only way to recognize each other. The
cocktail hour was at 7:00 p.m. Each class member enclosed family pictures with
the questionnaire they returned prior to the reunion. These pictures were
mounted and displayed in the hall throughout the evening.
The dinner began at 8:00 with an invocation by Mr. J.R. Thomas, and Ronald
Braun, master of ceremonies, presented the welcome. A moment of silence, and a
poem entitled “On the Other Side of Death” was read by Gwen Piggott in respect
of the deceased members, Dick Sten, Carolyn Oestreich, Richard Miles and Leroy
Lavendowska.
Correspondence was read from Mr. Carl Lawrenz and by Gwen Pigott.
During a short business meeting it was decided to hold another class reunion in
five years. Mr. Vern Dahlby, Mr. J. R. Thomas and Miss Eileen Hopkins each
shared a few words with the group.
A reunion booklet was given to each class member, which was written and
organized by Gwen (Fensome) Pigott, and assembled by Marlene (Loos) Hinker.
(A number of prizes were awarded which is not covered in this article)
A tour was given of Loyal High School by Gwen (Fensome) Pigott for those
interested, and the remainder of the evening was spent renewing old friendships.

Hinrichsen, Dennis Robert (26 July 1960 – 16 June 2023)
On Friday, June 16, 2023, a great man departed our lives to be home with his
Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Dennis Robert Hinrichsen, 62, of Abbotsford
passed away unexpectedly in his home where he and his wife of 39 years, Renee
Hinrichsen raised their four precious children, hosted family gatherings, and
cheered on the Packers.
Dennis was born July 26th, 1960, in Marshfield, to Robert and Dorla Hinrichsen.
He grew up in Spencer, where he was very proud to be a Rocket. He attended the
University of Wisconsin–River Falls and graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in
Dairy Science and a Minor in Business. In 1982, he met the love of his life,
Renee, and was happily married in 1984. He then started his own business (Quad
County Dairy Nutrition) in 1989 as a Dairy Nutritionist and retired in 2021.
He was a longtime and dedicated member of Zion Lutheran Church.
Dennis was an incredibly generous man, an avid hunter, and a die-hard sports
fanatic. He loved grilling big meats for his family, talking and joking to
anyone that crossed his path and attending morning coffee with his buddies. In
his younger years, he loved playing hours of Sheepshead, coaching girls
basketball, raising and running Beagles, camping and fishing with his family,
and taking an annual family vacation. His wife, Renee, was his best friend and
he loved her beyond words. The two spent their time together taking road trips,
drinking coffee, and attending every sporting event, recital, and program of
their nine grandchildren.
Dennis is survived by his wife, Renee (Luchterhand) Hinrichsen, their children,
Jill (Mark) Niemann of Greenwood, Jodi (Tim) Sandquist of Coon Rapids, MN,
Jessica (Zach) Zarnke of Marshfield, and James Hinrichsen of Eau Claire, and his
precious grandchildren, Cruz Niemann (9), Jace Niemann (7), Emerald Niemann (4),
Sterling Niemann (2), Paisleigh Sandquist (5), Gianna Sandquist (2), Alainna
Zarnke (7), Jackson Zarnke (7), and Grace Zarnke (5). He joins his beautiful
granddaughter, Amelia Sandquist, in the courts of heaven.
Dennis is furthered survived by his parents Robert and Dorla Hinrichsen of
Spencer, Laurie (Dale) Scheunemann, Sister and Brother-in-law of Wisconsin
Rapids, Patrick (Julieanne) Hinrichsen, Brother and Sister-in-Law of Sacramento,
CA, Perry (Melissa) Hinrichsen, Brother and Brother’s Fiancé of Spencer, and
Kurt (Albina) Hinrichsen, Brother and Sister-in-Law of Marina Del Rey, CA. He
also joins his sister, Arla Hinrichsen, Father-in-Law Gerald Luchterhand and his
Brother-in-Law Gary Luchterhand in heaven.
For all those that knew Dennis, his laugh was contagious and his jokes out
witted anyone. His favorite people called him “Santa,” “Grandpa Buck,” “Coach,”
and “Papa Dennis.” He will be deeply missed.

Saturday, June 24, 2023, with Pastor James Groleau officiating. Burial will take
