Podobnik, Mike, Sr.
(29 September 1880 - 5 February 1967)
Mike Podobnik, Sr., 86, of
Greenwood, died Sunday at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Marshfield, where he had been
a surgical patient since January 6.
Funeral services will be held today
(Thursday) at 9 o’clock from the Hill Funeral Home, and at 10 o’clock from St.
Mary’s Catholic Church. The Rev. Aloysius Baumann will officiate. Burial will be
made in Holy Family Cemetery in Willard. A rosary was held Wednesday evening.
Mr. Podobnik was born September 29, 1880, in Yugoslavia. On October 5,
1904, he was married to Johanna Yurkovich in Joliet, Ill. She died December 15,
1947. They moved to Greenwood in 1914, settling on a farm west of Greenwood. He
retired in 1951, moving into Greenwood, where he had resided since.
Her
was a member of St. Mary’s Church, Croatian Fraternal Union of American Lodge,
and served eight years as Town of Eaton supervisor, and was treasurer of West
Eaton School for nine years.
Survivors include: five daughters, Mrs.
Joseph (Eva) Bandoz of Joliet, Ill., Mrs. Eugene (Gertrude) Long of Chicago,
Mrs. Arnold (Theresa) Mendelson of Milwaukee, Mrs. Donald (Mary) Hatton of St.
Paul, Minn., and Mrs. Ernest (Mildred) Arch of Greenwood; three sons, August and
Mike, Jr., of Greenwood, and Emil of Milwaukee; 11 grandchildren; three
great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Mrs. Anna Barisich of Anaheim, Calif., and
Mrs. Frances Vranich of Sharon, Pa.
