Schmitt, Jacob C. (2 May 1893 - 9 February 1967)
Jacob C. Schmitt, 73, of
Rt. 1, Neillsville died suddenly February 9 at his farm home. Funeral services
were held Monday from St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Neillsville. The Rev. George
M. Nelson officiated and burial was made in the parish cemetery.
Mr.
Schmitt was born May 2, 1893, in Ft. Atkinson, Ia., son of the late John and
Frances (Reicks) Schmitt. He attended school there and did carpenter work. At
age 21 he came to Clark County, locating on a farm. On October 19, 1926, he was
married to the former Sarah M. Heinz in Neillsville. He had lived on his present
farm for the last 40 years.
Mr. Schmitt is survived by his wife; two
children, Mrs. Laurdes Illinski of Marshfield, and LaVerne J. Schmitt of
Neillsville. He is also survived by three sisters, Mrs. Carl (Tillie) Hackman,
Mrs. Ed (Rose) Franzen, and Mrs. Mike (Clara) Franzen, all of West Union, Ia.;
by a brother, George E. Schmitt of Cresco, Ia.; and three grandchildren.
A rosary service was said Sunday evening at the Georgas Funeral Home.
Mr.
Schmitt was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, the Holy Name Society and
Catholic Knights.
Pallbearers were: Henry and Jacob Langreck, Carl
Kessler, Ernest Lamppa, William Schwellenbach and Martin Feuerstein.
People coming from away to attend the service included: Mrs. Laurdes Illinski
and two sons, Ernest Lamppa and Mrs. Lawrence Kasberger of Marshfield; Mr. and
Mrs. Henry Aumann of Loyal; Mr. and Mrs. George Schmitt and Darian Schmitt of
Casco, Ia.; Mrs. Carl Hackman of St. Lukas, Ia.; John Wurtzer of West Union,
Ia.; Mrs. Mike Frazen and Duane Frazen of Hawkeye, Ia.; Ed Frazen and Leonard
Blong of Waucoma, Ia.; Frank Hainz and Lawrence Hainz of Milwaukee; and Mr. and
Mrs. Dale Mitchell of Pittsville.
