Ennis Krueger Is Shot In A Barn Near Polly

Other Two Krueger Boys, Leslie And Louis, Are Still Being Hunted

Owen - Ennis Krueger, twenty, alleged draft evader, who, with his tree brothers, engaged in a pitched battle with secret service men, state guards and civilians, eight days ago at Withee, Wis., was shot to death in a barn near Polly, Wis., Sunday afternoon.

Details of the shooting have not been given out by government agents. The body was brought to Owen last night. The other two Krueger boys, Leslie and Louis also charged with evading the draft are still at large.

Circumstances surrounding the death of Ennis Krueger were not fully known by Deputy Gant, but it is supposed he was discovered in his hiding place by one of the government agents who have been conducting a still hunt since the three brothers successfully broke their way through the cordon of several hundred men which encircled the sector in which the battle took place and since have been at liberty.

Polly, Wis. is about twenty-five miles northwest of Owen and in the territory that has been thoroughly combed for he defiant brothers ever since their escape.

Details of the death of Ennis Krueger are meager, but there apparently is little question but what he was felled by a bullet from a weapon in the hands of a government man.

Frank Krueger, thirty-six years old, the older brother, who was wounded during the fighting at the home of his mother, Mrs. Louise Krueger, sixty-five years old, is in the custody of the authorities at Eau Claire.

In connection with the killing of Ennis Krueger, it is noted that the edict went out from Washington a few days after the brothers had eluded the authorities that the search for them must not fail, and it is evident the hunt has been prosecuted with a vigor that practically makes certain the arrest or death of the two men still at large.
