Merrillan (9 March 1967)
Bert Hanby and Mrs. Mary Dagnon were called to
Gays Mills Tuesday by the sudden death of Mrs. Dagnon’s nephew, Francis Linton.
The funeral was held Saturday in Eastman. Mr. Linton was 22.
Town and
County Homemakers will met at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the home of Mrs. Lloyd
Olson.
The Merrillan Boy Scouts are now working for first aid badges.
Instructions are being given by Charles Hayden. He has invited Sidney and
Charles Jensen of Hixton to the next regular meeting tonight (Thursday). The
Jensen’s will bring their four-patient ambulance and explain the ambulance
features and how to care for an accident victim until help arrives. This meeting
will begin at 7 p.m. and is open to the public.
The Rev. Keith Davison
of La Crosse conducted Lenten services at the Alma Center Methodist Church
Wednesday evening. Rev. Calvin Carey conducted services at the Sparta
Evangelical United Brethren Church that evening. Next Wednesday the services at
the Alma Center church will be conducted by Rev. Stanley Wiese of the Sparta
Methodist Church. Rev. Carey will conduct services in the Black River Falls
Methodist Church.

Twenty-six persons attended the Merrillan
caucus last Friday evening.
Incumbent trustees nominated were Bill
Collins and Merlon Schoengarth. Others nominated for the office were Henry
Grasser, Bob Olson, Richard Johnson, and Charles Hobbs. Trustee Donna Olson
declined nomination for re-election. Three trustees will be elected April. 4.
Incumbent Vilas Smith was unanimously nominated to the office of president.
Incumbents Charlotte Nash, Sylvia Tolkan and Mahlon Bue were also unanimously
nominated to the offices of clerk, assessor and constable, respectively.
Incumbent Mildred Olson will be opposed by Freda McCorison for the office of
treasurer.
Incumbent Supervisor Vilas Smith will be opposed by Stanley
Gosch.
Holdover trustees are Sam Rush, Gene McKevitt and Phil
Fitzpatrick. Holdover constable is David Barritt.
Polls April 4 will open
from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. in the Municipal building.
Richard Johnson was
elected caucus chairman and Freda McCorison caucus clerk. Mmes. Vilas Smith and
Harry Demaski acted as tellers.
