Stoiber, Mr./Mrs. Frank (60th – 22 May 1977)

Mr. and Mrs. Frank Stoiber celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary Sunday night at Municipal Hall, Dorchester, with over 150 guests present for the occasion. Family members had attended mass at St. Louis Church and had gathered at the Stoiber home during the day also.

Mr. and Mrs. Stoiber were married on May 2, 1917 at St. Louis Catholic Church in Dorchester in a double wedding ceremony, with Mr. and Mrs. Joe Dessl, the other couple. Mrs. Dessl, the former Sophie Stoiber, is a sister of Stoiber, and resides in Dorchester. Dessl is now deceased. The only living attendant at the wedding was Mrs. Kate Suennen, Athens, who was present for the anniversary on Sunday.

Frank Stoiber was born May 4, 1888, at Darboy, and came to this community with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Stoiber, in 1899. Mrs. Stoiber, the former Anna Gabriel, was born August 15, 1895, in Delmenhorst, Germany. She came to this county with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. August Gabriel, in early youth. The family first settled in Chicago, and then moved to the Colby area. Following their marriage, Mr. and Mrs. Stoiber moved to a farm in the Town of Mayville, which they operated until 1947, when they built a new home in the village and moved to Dorchester. Their son Alvin took over the farm at that time, and presently, their grandson, Richard Stoiber operates the home farm.

Ortlieb, Theresa (19 Jun 1904 – May 1977)

Funeral services were held Saturday, May 28, 1977 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Louis Catholic Church at Dorchester for Mrs. Rudolph Ortlieb, 72. The Rev. James Schaefer officiated and burial was in Dorchester Memorial Cemetery (South). Kraut-Maurina Funeral Home in Dorchester was in charge.

She died at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Marshfield, where she had been a patient for one week.

The former Theresa Hastreiter was born June 19, 1904, in Marshfield. In 1911 she moved to Parker’s Prairie, Minnesota. In 1918 she moved to Colby. On October 15, 1924 she married Rudolph Ortlieb at Dorchester. They farmed in Dorchester since 1927. They celebrated their golden wedding anniversary on October 15, 1974.

She was a member of St. Louis Catholic Church and the Rosary-Altar Society.

Survivors include her husband, five sons, Eugene and Jerome Ortlieb, Columbus, Ohio, John Ortlieb, Milwaukee, Donald and James Ortlieb, Dorchester; three daughters, Mrs. Donald (Kathleen) Johnson, Milwaukee, Mrs. Chet (Jo Ann) Hintz, Milwaukee, Mrs. Dennis (Shirley) Lieber, Milwaukee; two sisters, Mrs. Mary Blashask, Parkers Prairie, Minnesota, and Mrs. Barbara Jaeger, Chicago, Illinois.; 14 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by on daughter and six brothers.

The Rev. Francis P. Rushman celebrated mass on the occasion of his 25 years in the priesthood at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Colby, Sunday, June 5, 1977.

There are six priests in the Rushman family. His cousins were in attendance. Additionally in attendance were Rev. Louis A. Dietrich, the Rev. Valentine Thibedeau, and the Rev. Vanney Thibedeau.

A 17-year-old Colby girl was named the 1977 Marathon County June Dairy Princess June 1, 1977 during the coronation at the Rib River Ballroom near Marathon.

Susan Rahm, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Emery Rahm, will be a salaried employee of the Wausau area Chamber of Commerce during June. Her main tasks will be to promote dairy products.

She received a number of prizes. Gordon Gunderson, Marathon County Board Chairman, presented her with a bouquet of roses. Jerry Brickner of Brickner Motors in Little Chicago, donated the use of a 1977 Chrysler to her for the month of June.

Gasoline for the car will be provided by George Hrdina of Cloverbelt Cooperative Services. A check for a wardrobe was given to her by Clarence Sturm, who was representing the Greater Wausau Retail Council.

Miss Rahm will be a senior at Colby High School next all. She is active in FHA, music, 4-H and athletics.

Beside working during June, she will appear in various events during other portions of the next years.

Mr. and Mrs. Anselm J. Schmid, Dorchester, announce the engagement and approaching marriage of their daughter, Evonne Faye to Ross K. Rannow, Colby.

The bride-to-be graduated from the Colby High School in 1977 and is employed as secretary at Schjoneman’s Truck Sales office at Medford. Her fiancé is employed as a carpenter at Rannow Cabinet and Supply at Colby.

The marriage will take place on September 3, 1977.

Miss Larocque will be employed for the summer at the Abbotsford City Hall, and Thomas is employed by Marlin Kraus of Stetsonville.

An August 6, 1977 wedding has been chose by the couple.

Miss Schreiner, a 1976 graduate of Athens High School, is employed at Employers Insurance of Wausau. Her fiancé graduated in 1974 from Abbotsford High School and is presently engaged in farming..

A September 24, 1977 wedding date has been set.

News: Colby – Book Cart Donated to Colonial House (Jun 1977)

Phoebe Purkis studied the mobile book cart presented to Colonial House residents by Scout Bill Clifford, Colby. The mobile cart will enable a large selection of books to be taken to a residents’ room, where they may choose their own. The cart is wheel chair height with glass sliding doors for easy viewing of books. Bill and other members of Boy Scout Troop 683 made the cart for credit towards his eagle project.

A pre-nuptial shower was held at the Frankfort Town Hall recently in honor of Sharon Dahlke and Jeff Reyzer, who are to be married June 11, 1977 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Colby. Almost 25 ladies attended. Games were played and lunch served. Hosts were the bridal party.

Mr. and Mrs. Mark Rannow are the parents of a daughter born May 28, 1977 at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Marshfield. She weighed 7 pounds, 3 ounces. They named her Jessica Ann.

Grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Rannow, Colby, and Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Strasser, Wausau. Great-grandparents are Mrs. Rose Hegland, Ashland, and Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Strasser, Wausau, and Mrs. Otto Rannow.
