Dangers, Burghard (1844 - 3 DEC 1914)
Neillsville has been particularly
unfortunate in the past week in losing three very excellent citizens, two of
whom were especially well known and respected by all. In the death of B.
Dangers, this city loses one of its finest gentlemen and foremost business men.
A self-made man, distinguished by his uprightness and honesty, possessed of
every excellent quality which goes toward making a man esteemed and respected,
Mr. Dangers well deserved the esteem in which he was held in business and social
circles. He was conservative in his business yet foremost in every enterprise
which tended to upbuild the community; endowed with a keen intellect and
intelligence he took great interest in all public affairs; a “home” man and yet
always willing to sacrifice his personal inclinations for the benefit of others.
He was a great lover of music, possessed of a keen sense of humor and having a
charitable side to his character which was always in evidence, he lived a life
which was ideal in its many phases. In a way he was quiet and retiring in
disposition and yet his influence reached farther than generally known. In his
passing, Neillsville loses a most excellent man and his family a splendid
husband and father.
Burghard Dangers was born in 1844 at Mandelsloh,
Germany. He came to America with his parents at the age of six months and spent
his boyhood near Cedarburg. He engaged in the mercantile business at Newburg and
in 1867 was united in marriage at Newburg to Helene Frankenburg. After spending
some years at Newburg and Adelle, the family moved to Neillsville 31 years ago.
Nine children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Dangers, three daughters of whom are
dead. The children who, with their mother, survive him are Walter G. and Fred W.
Dangers, Mrs. F.J. Eppling, Mrs. T.E. Brameld, Mrs. B,P. Churchill, Mrs. C.H.
Kircherer. Deceased is also survived by two sisters, Mrs. A. Lauber of Union
Grove and Mrs. H. Braatz of Wausau.
Mr. Dangers had been ailing for
several weeks and after days of patient suffering he passed away last Thursday.
He was laid to rest Sunday afternoon, funeral services being conducted at the
German Lutheran Church by Rev. Brandt after a brief service at home. The
services at the church, of which he was a member, were attended by large numbers
of sorrowing friends. The interment was made in the Neillsville Cemetery and the
pall bearers were the four sons-in-law, together with Mr. Lauber, a
brother-in-law, and Fred Eppling, a grandson.
Among those from
out-of-town who attended the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. A. Lauber of Union Grove,
Mrs. H. Braatz of Wausau, Mr. and Mrs. E.V. Frankenburg of West Bend, Fred
Eppling of Sheboygan, Raymond Turner of Norway, Mich., Dr. and Mrs. B.P.
Churchill of Milwaukee, Mrs. C.H. Kircherer of Ogden, Utah, Mr. Peterson of
Milwaukee and Mr. Utmeyer of Marshfield.
