Eight inches of snow.
The Good Templars have a roll call of about
eighty members. They are making saloons a poor investment in our thriving
village.
Frank Lamereux from Plover is the man who teaches our young
ideas how to shoot. Frank is a jolly good fellow, and a good teacher. He is
giving good satisfaction.
We have had a three days trespass case on the
west side, over the sale of a homestead piece. Squire Monighan with his usual
flow of eloquence, forcibly impressed the fact on the minds of the jury that a
man was all right in selling his place, and still holding it - providing he got
his pay in advance. Good idea.
There has been about twenty-five hunters
here this winter from below. I believe they bought three and killed one deer.
The agent says only four have been shipped. Their custom was to hunt deer about
two hours in the morning, as it took them the balance of the day to find the
hotel.
J. D. Edminster has just returned form Milwaukee, and is going to
work with a mill, manufacturing lumber and shingles. He is putting in a new
shingle mill under the supervision of Mr. A. Ferguson, his foremen, and a good
man for the place. Mr. Edminster has been working hard here for the last two
years, under many difficulties, to get a start, and we wish him all success now
he in on his feet again.
