Janke, August Carl (17 October
1892 - 12 June 1967)
Funeral services will be held this (Thursday)
afternoon at 1:30 from the Neillsville Methodist Church for August C. Janke, 74,
of Neillsville, who died in Memorial Hospital in Black River Falls Monday. The
Rev. Keith L. Hanley of Black River Falls will officiate. Burial will be made in
East Lawn Cemetery, Alma Center.
Mrs. Glenn Lazotte and Miss Linda
Lazotte will sing, “What a Friend We Have in Jesus” and “Nearer My God to Thee“
and will be accompanied by Mrs. Jas. A. Musil.
August Carl Janke was
born October 17, 1892, in Garden Valley (Jackson County). His parents were the
late Carl A. Janke and Mrs. Wilhelmina (Monthei) Janke, of Memorial Home,
Neillsville. He attended school and farmed in Garden Valley, and worked as a
road patrolman in Alma Center.
On December 25, 1919, he was married to
the former Merle Bush in Alma Center. The family later moved to Neillsville,
where Mr. Janke was employed at the Counsel Elevator. He later hauled milk for
many years. He also had been employed at the Nelson Muffler plant and at the
time he was stricken he was janitor at the Neillsville Bank.
He is
survived by a daughter, Mrs. Donald (Marcia) Frei of Black River Falls; six
sisters, Mrs. Fritz (Clara) Johnson of Minneapolis, Minn., Mrs. Eric (Freda)
Pederson of Ladysmith, Mrs. Roy (Minnie) Duxbury of Merrillan, Mrs. Erna
Jacobson and Mrs. Helen Cummings of Alma Center, and Mrs. Rolland (Viola)
Townsend of Mesa, Ariz.; four brothers, Herman and Paul Janke of Black River
Falls, Alvin Janke of Humbird, and Paul Janke of St. Paul, Minn. Also surviving
are two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; and the former Merle Janke.

Funeral services were held last Thursday afternoon from the Neillsville
Methodist Church for August C. Janke, 74, of Neillsville, who died June 12, in a
Black River Falls hospital.
The Rev. Keith L. Hanley of Black River Falls
officiated and burial was made in East Lawn Cemetery, Alma Center.
Pallbearers were: Carl Kessler, Ray Filitz, W. G. Meier, A. J. Schoengarth,
Clarence Bardell and Albert Smith.

and Mrs. Helen Cummings of Alma Center; Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Janke of Fairchild;
Paul Janke of St. Paul, Minn.; Mr. and Mrs. Herman Schmelter and Mrs. Ida
Zealley of Milwaukee; Mrs. William Van Dearn, Jr., of Tony; Mr. and Mrs. Ralph
Erickson of Rice Lake; Mrs. Henry Schmidt of Loyal; and Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Bush
of Milwaukee.
