Greenwood-Our Saviors Lutheran (New Pastor - 1984)
Installation ceremonies were conducted at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in
Greenwood and Emmanuel Lutheran Church at Longwood last Sunday for the Rev.
Richard E. Sorenson.
The Rev. Joseph Kraly, president of the Marshfield Conference of the American
Lutheran Church and pastor at Trinity Lutheran Church in Loyal, presided. The
Rev. Sorenson is a native of Eleva where he had graduated from the Eleva-Strum
High School. While attending Augsburg College he took a year to work as an
orderly in a hospital before completing work for his BA degree. He then attended
Luther Theological Seminary in St. Paul. His internship was a three-point
assignment in North Dakota where he spent an additional year serving two of the
rural parishes.
In 1970, the Rev. Sorenson was ordained at First Lutheran Church in Eau Claire
and then served at Clayton. He had served at Rock Creek Lutheran Church at Rock
Falls since 1977.
Through basic fireman training while at Clayton, he is qualified as a volunteer
fireman.
Mary Mikutowski of St. Paul became his bride on August 9, 1968. She also
attended Augsburg where she earned a degree in English and is certified to teach
in both Minnesota and Wisconsin. More recently she has earned two associate
degrees in data processing and accounting from Dist. I Tech-Eau Claire.
Both Pastor Sorenson and his wife enjoy camping and cross country skiing. Mary’s
talents include being an organist and calligraphy.
