Jiskra, Karen L. (30 JUN 1962)
St. John’s Church in Sheldon was the scene
of a double ring ceremony uniting in marriage Miss Karen Lou Jiskra of Milwaukee
and James Posda of Chicago. Rev. Geo. Voturba performed the 10:00 o’clock
nuptial High Mass Saturday, June 30th, 1962, the altar being decorated in
apricot gladiolas and white carnations.
Parents of the bride are Mr. and
Mrs. Fred Jiskra of Sheldon and Mr. Geo. Posda of Stanley.
The bride’s
father escorted her to the altar. For her wedding she chose a floor length gown
of tulle lace edged layers with a lace panel flowing down the front, the bodice
featured a scalloped neckline with sequins. Her elbow length veil featured 3
lace edged tiers held by a crown of crystals. The bride carried a cross of pink
roses, stephanotis and white carnations. After the ceremony the bride placed a
bouquet of pink carnations at the foot of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Miss Carolyn
Wiemer, girlfriend of the bride, acted as maid of honor, and the other
attendants were: Jennie and Katherine Jiskra, sisters of the bride, Theresa
Grendzinski and Louis Skwierczynski, sisters of the groom. Miss Rita
Skwierczynski, nice of the groom, was the flower girl. The attendants wore full
length apricot colored dresses with four tiers of white lace as an overskirt,
cap sleeves with an apricot bustle accented their dresses, the headpieces were
apricot colored clusters of leaves and flowers with a blush veil. They also wore
white gloves, carried white and yellow carnations. They wore pearl earrings and
necklace, a gift of the bride. The best man was Walter Posda, brother of the
groom. The other attendants were: Melvin Lauer, friend of the groom, Richard
Posda, brother of the groom, Raymond Grendzinski and Louis Skwierczynski,
brothers-in-law of the groom. Randy Skwierczynski, nephew of the groom, was ring
bearers. Ushers were Richard Anders and Leonard Posda.
Following the
ceremony was a breakfast service in the church basement for 150 guests. A 5:00
o’clock dinner was served in the church basement for 250 guests. Mrs. Richard
Anders, sister of the bride, cut and served the four tiered wedding cake, which
was made by Mrs. Charles Wiemer.
Diane and Janet Lauer, also Yvonne
Dirks, opened and displayed the gifts. Miss Betty Haase took charge of the guest
book.
The reception was from one to five at the North Star Pavilion, with
dancing for everyone. A private dance was held in the evening. Music was
furnished by the Jolly Polkateers.
