Hales, Roy and Lesta (17
AUG 1910)
Celebrating 50 years of wedded life on August 17th were Mr. and
Mrs. Roy Hales, residents of the town of Loyal on a farm four miles southeast of
this city. It will be 47 years ago on Labor Day of this year that the couple
arrived here from Iowa.
Roy was born February 6, 1888 at Milford, Iowa
and his wife at New Providence, Iowa on May 5, 1890. They were married August
17, 1910 at Ocheyedan, Iowa. They have one son, Myrle of Manawa, three
granddaughters and six great grandchildren.
Although Roy retired from the
farm some six years ago, he still holds the office of town of Loyal treasurer
which he was held for 22 years. He is also on the ASC committee, a post in which
he has spent 14 years. In addition he was honored in June of this year for 50
years membership in the Masonic Lodge. The couple attends the Loyal Methodist
Church and are both members of the Eastern Star.
Mrs. Hales is a member
of the Royal Neighbors, the Homemakers, American Legion Auxiliary and the WSCS.
Perhaps their most interesting hobby is following their favorite Milwaukee
Braves baseball team. The couple managed to see some 13 games last year and will
likely better that record this season. With 12 times at Milwaukee County Park
thus far, they plan two more excursions before the season ends, and Roy plans on
taking in a White Sox game in Chicago for good measure.
