Funeral services were held
Thursday afternoon, September 15, at the Hansen Funeral Home in Marshfield for
Mrs. George Castner, 92, who died Monday evening, September 12, at her home at
212 S. Cedar Ave., Marshfield. She has been in ill health for 2 ½ years. The
Rev. R. L. Jacobs, pastor of First Methodist Church, officiated and burial was
made in the Loyal cemetery.
Pallbearers were Elmer Wicker, Gilbert
Wicker, Delmar Wicker, Claude Castner, Dan Walters and Everett Berg.
The
former Nettie Wicker was born August 2, 1868, at Neberg. She came to the town of
Spencer at the age of 4 with her parents, and later moved to Unity. She taught
school in the Curtiss-Green Grove area.
Before her marriage to George
Castner in Colby on January 28, 1904, she operated a dressmaking and millinery
shop in Loyal and Hurley. She was also a loyal public School teacher. After the
marriage she lived in and around Loyal and Marshfield. Her husband died in
January 1929.
Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Gerald (Jeanette)
Jacobson and Miss Valda Castner, Marshfield; Mrs. Orville (Edith) Wichman,
Loyal; two stepdaughters, Mrs. Cora Mehler, Arlington, Virginia and Mrs. Ray
(Frona) Kauffmann, Alexandria, Virginia; and a stepson, John Castner,
Marshfield; a brother Thomas Wicker, Colby. There are eight grandchildren and 17
great-grandchildren. She also was preceded in death by a stepdaughter, Mrs.
Henry (Ethel) Boe. four brothers and five sisters.
Those from Loyal
attending the services were Mr. and Mrs. Orville Wichman, Mr. and Mrs. Henry
Boe, Mrs. W. I. Mack, Mr. and Mrs. Dan Walters and Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence
Firnstahl. Mrs. Jerome Schmidt of Menomonie & Miss Judy Wichman of Eau Claire
also attended.
