 Hugh Berg is substitute Rural Mail Carrier on Route one.

The Misses Inez and Gertrude Holmes spent Tuesday with friends at Chili.

Frieda Storm spent several days of this week at her uncle August Storm in Marshfield.

Norman Altman of Marshfield has been clerking in the Memmeter store the past two weeks.

Mrs. Henry Marg and Mrs. Gerzemehle with her son Louie spent Tuesday with relatives at Marshfield.

Rush Wentworth came home from Edgerton Tuesday night.  Mrs. W. remained for a more extended visit.

Miss Laura Gerzemehle came home Monday from a weeks visit between the Arthur and Alfred Drescher homes.

Mrs. Max Geimer, Miss Mary Grasser and Elva Thayer spent Tuesday with friends at Neillsville.

Mrs. Herman Garbush and little sons Walter and Herbert are visiting her parents Mr. and Mrs. Herm Grobe at Chili since Tuesday.

The usual meeting will be held next Sunday night.  Young Peoples Bible Class at 7 p.m.  Regular service at 7:30 p.m.  Rev. E.A. Wolf.

Mary and Elsie Kempin of Chili spent Tuesday and Wednesday here with Frances and Stella Davis.

Miss Elsie Breseman suffering with a boil on her arm could not return to her work at Neillsville last week but was obliged to remain at home until Tuesday.

Ira Robbins has been quite under the weather for the past two weeks and since early this week has been here at the Webb Winn home that he might be nearer his physician.

“Grandpa†Charles Hart died at the home of his son George here last Tuesday evening after a short illness at the age of over 87 years.  The remains were taken to Humbird for burial.  Obituary will be published next week.

Norman Hart has been here from Humbard since Monday assisting in the care of his aged father Charles Hart who has been alarmingly ill since Sunday.

Mr. and Mrs. Aug. Grim of Oshkosh returning home from the Pacific coast stopped off here and made a weeks visit at the Henry Riedel home over south, then continued on to Oshkosh Wednesday.  Mr. and Mrs. Riedel accompanied them as far as Marshfield.

From all reports Christmas trade was exceptionally good in all the stores this year, although the mild weather has to a certain extent spoiled the sale of winter goods.  One noticeable fact this year was that the public has given more attention to the purchase of useful articles, a fact which seems to become more universal throughout the country every year.

Walter Cattanach of Nasonville and Miss Nina Cornwell of Neillsville were married at Neillsville Tuesday evening, the minister of the M.E. church performing the ceremony.  Mr. Cattanach who holds  a position as mail clerk between Owen and Chicago is well known here, and is a graduate of the Neillsville High School. The bride is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Leland Cornwell of Neillsville.  For the present they will make their home with the groom’s parents in the town of Lincoln.  We congratulate.

Mr. and Mrs. Frank Wenzel and son Milfred of Withee are guests at Ernest Lee’s since Wednesday.

Helen Baer entertained about 25 little girl friends at a party, Wed. in honor of her 9^th birthday.  Mrs. Sniteman chaperoned 4 little Neillsville girls.

Mrs. Beels of Marshfield came over last Friday and visited at Otto Henze’s until Wednesday since which time she is visiting at Emery Crosby’s in Neillsville.

Mr. and Mrs. Richard Braatz returned on Monday from a very pleasant trip and visit with Rev. Leopold Moench’s family at Clintonville and the Braatz families at Wausau.

Chas. Wilke has accepted a position as clerk in the sort of W.E. Morgan & Co. at Unity and left for that place on Thursday.

The sad news of the untimely death of Herbert Knickle came to us as a severe shock Tuesday morning.  Herbert, a handsome school boy of seventeen years whose home is at Spencer has many friends hereabouts through school mates and acquaintances made while staying with his brother Elmer.  He sang at the Christmas program at Veefkind and we hand not learned of his illness and it was with sad surprise and deep regret we learned of his death.  His demise was the result of pneumonia.

Charley Babcock of Neillsville who is driving team and hauling gravel on the state road being built in the town of Washburn, met with a very painful and serious accident last Friday morning.  Walking back of his load a yard and a half of gravel, he heard a motor cycle coming and went to the side of the wagon and caught up the lines, just in time to get the full force of the team’s lunge.  This dislocated his shoulder and he stumbled and fell, breaking finger on the right hand as he struck the earth.  Then the wagon passing over his upper right arm broke it in two places.  Charley Crocker who was autoing through there on business took the injured man home where he has since been confined, suffering much.  It will be months before he will be able to take up such work again.  All of which is sad news to his many friends hereabouts.

Joe Janes of the town of Sherwood was taken to Marshfield last week Wednesday and underwent a critical surgical operation at the hospital there next day.  Mrs. Janes coming home from there this week Wednesday reports him as being fairly comfortable and with hopes of speedy recovery.  His son David and other members of his family remained with him to stay until Mrs. Janes can go back.
