Mierkey, Boilerman 1/c Clarence H. (Military Notes - 1967)
Boilerman 1/c Clarence H. Mierkey son of Mr. and Mrs. Evan W. Mierkey of Rt.
1 Colby was promoted to his present rank while serving aboard the attack
aircraft carrier USS Ranger in the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard in Bremerton,
Wash.
Petty Officer Mierkey is assigned to Number Three machinery room.
He supervises 24 men in the maintenance and operation of the steam system in the
machinery space.
Steam is used on board to run the electrical generators
and supply the evaporators to heat and purify salt water for use by the crew and
to supply steam to Ranger’s four catapults.
Petty Officer Mierkey is
presently training the new men under his supervision in the Boilerman rating.
A graduate of high school in Birnamwood, Mierkey entered the service in
February, 1954.
